What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking Express Aroma Powder against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. What’s inside
Low disclosure
Express Aroma Powder contains 5 active ingredients: dandelion, chicory, beet, rye, and roasted barley. These are combined in a proprietary blend, meaning the exact amounts of each are not separately listed.
The product has no inactive fillers listed. Dandelion is a root traditionally used; chicory is another root often included in herbal blends.
Beet, rye, and barley are plant-derived ingredients commonly used in herbal and food supplements.
Does it work?
Strong evidence
The evidence for this product's uses is mixed and mostly limited. For dandelion, the data shows insufficient evidence to rate its use for joint pain, tonsillitis, postoperative swelling, and postoperative pain.
Chicory likewise has insufficient evidence for neonatal jaundice, fatty liver disease, osteoarthritis, indigestion, and high cholesterol. Beet shows possibly effective evidence for athletic performance and exercise-induced muscle soreness, though it is rated possibly ineffective for COPD and insufficient for fatty liver disease and cognitive function.
Barley stands out with likely effective evidence for high cholesterol and heart disease prevention. Rye's effectiveness data is not on file.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Dandelion is generally well tolerated as food, but supplement-strength doses are less studied and may cause allergy or stomach upset. The most common side effects are diarrhea, heartburn, and stomach discomfort.
Rare but serious allergic reactions including anaphylaxis have occurred, and people allergic to ragweed, daisies, chrysanthemums, or related plants may react to dandelion pollen. Topically, it can cause contact dermatitis in sensitive skin.
Chicory is generally well tolerated in food amounts but may cause gas, bloating, and abdominal pain. It can trigger allergies in people sensitive to the ragweed family.
The safety data advises against medicinal amounts during pregnancy (rated possibly unsafe) and recommends caution while breastfeeding. Beet is widely eaten as food and generally well tolerated; the most common side effect is red or black stools, which is harmless.
Rare serious effects include low blood calcium and kidney damage from very large amounts. Barley is safe as food but contains gluten; it's generally fine in food form while breastfeeding, though concentrated supplements lack safety data.
Allergic reactions including anaphylaxis have occurred in sensitive people, and occupational exposure ("bakers' asthma") can cause respiratory problems. We hold no pregnancy or lactation safety data for rye.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before taking this powder, check with your doctor or pharmacist if you take blood thinners or antiplatelet drugs (dandelion may increase bleeding risk), diabetes medications (dandelion and chicory may lower blood sugar), potassium-sparing water pills (dandelion may raise potassium too high), lithium (dandelion may increase levels), CYP3A4 substrates like many statins and blood pressure drugs (beet may raise levels), fluoroquinolone antibiotics like ciprofloxacin (dandelion may lower levels), or triclabendazole for parasites (barley may reduce its effect).
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFormula with limited ingredient disclosure with strong clinical evidence behind its ingredients' uses. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
This powder combines five plant ingredients with modest to mixed evidence — barley has good data for cholesterol and heart health, beet for exercise recovery, and the others have insufficient evidence or are poorly studied. Because dandelion, chicory, and beet interact with over 1,000 medications (especially blood thinners, diabetes drugs, and heartburn/blood pressure medications), anyone on prescription drugs should check their exact medications with your doctor or pharmacist before taking it.
People allergic to ragweed or related plants should avoid it.

Express Aroma Powder by Christopher's Original Formulas Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Express Aroma Powder by Christopher's Original Formulas contains five ingredients, and through its dandelion, chicory, and beet content, it interacts with a number of medications.
The most serious concern is dandelion's effect on blood thinners (anticoagulants and antiplatelet drugs) — it may increase your risk of bruising and bleeding because lab work suggests it can interfere with how your blood clots.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Dandelion also theoretically raises levels of several drug groups: CYP1A2 substrates (drugs metabolized by a liver enzyme), potassium-sparing water pills (raising potassium too high), drugs for diabetes (raising low blood sugar risk), glucuronidated drugs (drugs cleared by another liver pathway), and lithium (a psychiatric medication that can build up to unsafe levels). It may also lower levels of fluoroquinolone antibiotics like ciprofloxacin.
Chicory adds another diabetes drug concern — it may lower blood sugar further. Beet can increase levels of CYP3A4 substrates (a large group including many statins, blood pressure drugs, and immunosuppressants) and theoretically lower CYP1A2 substrates, though it may also have a minor blood pressure-lowering effect.
Barley interacts with triclabendazole, a deworming medication, though this has not been shown in humans. We could not check rye — we hold no data for it.
Altogether, these interactions span 1,071 individual medications. If you take any prescription medication, run it through the checker on this page or talk with your doctor or pharmacist before starting this product.

Beet
Cytochrome P450 3A4 (Cyp3A4) Substrates
Theoretically, beet might increase the levels of CYP3A4 substrates.
In vitro research suggests that betanin, the major pigment in beet, competitively inhibits CYP3A4 in a dose-dependent manner similarly to strong CYP3A4 inhibitor ketoconazole.
Antihypertensive Drugs
Beet and beetroot contain nitrates, which can cause vasodilation, potentially leading to lower blood pressure. However, a study published in the European Journal of Clinical Nutrition using concentrated beetroot juice found no significant impact on blood pressure or heart rate in different age groups. Other small clinical studies suggest that while beet consumption might transiently lower blood pressure due to vessel dilation, there's no consistent evidence of a lasting effect. Overall, the theoretical risk of reduced blood pressure due to beet's nitrate content exists, but studies generally indicate a low and temporary impact rather than a sustained decrease.
Cytochrome P450 1A2 (Cyp1A2) Substrates
Theoretically, beet might decrease the levels and clinical effects of CYP1A2 substrates.
In vitro research suggests that beet induces CYP1A2 enzymes.
Dandelion
Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs
Theoretically, taking dandelion root along with anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs might increase the risk of bruising and bleeding.
In vitro research suggests that dandelion root inhibits platelet aggregation.
Antidiabetes Drugs
Theoretically, dandelion might increase the risk for hypoglycemia when used with antidiabetes drugs.
Laboratory research suggests that dandelion extract may have moderate alpha-glucosidase inhibitor activity and might also increase insulin secretion. Also, in a case report, a 58-year-old woman with type 2 diabetes who was being treated with insulin developed hypoglycemia 2 weeks after beginning to eat salads containing dandelion.
Cytochrome P450 1A2 (Cyp1A2) Substrates
Theoretically, dandelion might increase levels of drugs metabolized by CYP1A2.
Laboratory research suggests that dandelion might inhibit CYP1A2. So far, this interaction has not been reported in humans. However, until more is known, watch for an increase in the levels of drugs metabolized by CYP1A2 in patients taking dandelion.
Glucuronidated Drugs
Theoretically, dandelion might increase the clearance of drugs that are UDP-glucuronosyltransferase substrates.
There is some preliminary evidence that dandelion might induce UDP-glucuronosyltransferase, a phase II enzyme.
Lithium
Theoretically, through diuretic effects, dandelion might reduce excretion and increase levels of lithium.
Animal research suggests that dandelion has diuretic properties. As diuretics can increase serum lithium levels, the dose of lithium might need to be decreased when taken with dandelion.
Potassium-Sparing Diuretics
Theoretically, dandelion might increase the risk of hyperkalemia when taken with potassium-sparing diuretics.
Dandelion contains significant amounts of potassium.
Quinolone Antibiotics
Theoretically, dandelion might lower fluoroquinolone levels.
Animal research shows that dandelion reduces absorption of ciprofloxacin and can lower levels by 73%. However, this effect has not been reported in humans.
Chicory
Antidiabetes Drugs
Theoretically, chicory might increase the risk of hypoglycemia when taken with antidiabetes drugs.
Animal and in vitro research shows that chicory extracts have antidiabetic effects.
roasted Barley
Triclabendazole (Egaten)
Theoretically, barley might decrease the clinical effects of triclabendazole.
Animal research suggests that a diet supplemented with barley can reduce the bioavailability of triclabendazole when taken concomitantly. This effect has not been shown in humans.
