Low disclosure
Flotrol Natural Bladder Support contains two active ingredients. The first is a Bladder Control Phytoestrogen Complex — a blend of plant-derived estrogen-like compounds designed to support bladder function.
The second is Go-Less, another proprietary blend, also formulated for bladder control. The third active ingredient is pumpkin seed extract, which may help with urinary and prostate function.
Soy germ isoflavones round out the formula. The tablet also contains microcrystalline cellulose, stearic acid, magnesium stearate, and silicon dioxide as inactive ingredients — these are binders, lubricants, and flow agents that help form and stabilize the tablet.
Does it work?
Insufficient evidence
The evidence for pumpkin seed extract in bladder support is mixed. It's rated possibly effective for benign prostatic hyperplasia (an enlarged prostate).
For other urinary conditions — including interstitial cystitis and urinary tract infections — the evidence is insufficient to rate it one way or the other. We hold no effectiveness data for the other active ingredients in this product.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Pumpkin seed extract is generally well tolerated when taken by mouth. The most common side effects reported in trials are mild abdominal discomfort, diarrhea, nausea, and vomiting.
A very rare serious effect — anaphylaxis — has been reported. There are also two case reports of people developing hair loss or severe gastrointestinal upset after eating bitter-tasting pumpkin or squash, attributed to high levels of naturally occurring toxins called cucurbitacins; this is uncommon in standard supplements.
Safety data during pregnancy is not on file for pumpkin seed supplements — pumpkin as food is fine, but concentrated supplements lack sufficient study in pregnancy. For breastfeeding, safety of concentrated supplements is similarly not well studied.
