Formula V Ingredients & Drug Interactions
What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking Formula V against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy

HelloPharmacist Scorecard of Formula V by Health Concerns
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Low disclosure
Formula V contains three active ingredients: a proprietary blend (whose specific components aren't listed on the label), stoneroot, horse chestnut seed extract, and butcher's broom. The product also includes inactive ingredients — vegetable gum, silicon dioxide, stearic acid, and cellulose — which are fillers and binders that help hold the tablet together.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
Horse chestnut seed extract is possibly effective for chronic venous insufficiency (CVI) — a condition where veins in the legs have trouble returning blood to the heart. For other uses listed on the label — hemorrhoids, irritable bowel syndrome, and kidney stones — the evidence isn't strong enough to rate.
Butcher's broom is also possibly effective for CVI, but evidence for its other listed uses (diabetic retinopathy, hemorrhoids, low blood pressure on standing, and lymphedema) is insufficient. We have no effectiveness data in our records for stoneroot or the proprietary blend.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Horse chestnut seed extract from properly processed seeds is generally well tolerated when taken by mouth, though dizziness, upset stomach, headache, and itching have been reported. One case describes a rare heart complication (fluid buildup around the heart) possibly linked to the supplement's blood-thinning effects.
Butcher's broom is well tolerated short-term in healthy adults, but long-term safety data is limited; common side effects are diarrhea, indigestion, nausea, and vomiting. The safety data advises against both ingredients during pregnancy and breastfeeding — there isn't enough information to know they're safe at those times.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before you take Formula V, check with your doctor or pharmacist if you're on blood thinners or antiplatelet drugs (like warfarin, clopidogrel, or aspirin) — horse chestnut may increase bleeding risk. Also confirm you're not taking alpha-adrenergic antagonists or agonists (blood pressure or other drugs affecting these receptors) before adding butcher's broom, as it may change how those drugs work.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFormula with limited ingredient disclosure with some supporting evidence for its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Formula V may help with chronic venous insufficiency if you don't take blood thinners or blood pressure drugs. If you're on any medications — especially blood thinners, antiplatelet drugs, or blood pressure medicines — talk with your doctor or pharmacist before starting this product.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding are not recommended times to use it.

Formula V by Health Concerns Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Formula V by Health Concerns contains horse chestnut seed extract and butcher's broom, both of which interact with medications.
The most serious interaction is with blood thinners (anticoagulants) and antiplatelet drugs: horse chestnut may increase bleeding risk because it has blood-thinning effects of its own.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Butcher's broom affects how your body responds to two classes of blood pressure drugs. It may reduce the effects of alpha-adrenergic antagonists (drugs that lower blood pressure by relaxing blood vessels), and it may increase the effects of alpha-adrenergic agonists (drugs that raise blood pressure or constrict blood vessels), potentially causing unwanted side effects.
These interactions are theoretical — shown in animal and lab studies — but haven't been proven in people.
We could not check stoneroot for interactions; we hold no data for it. Altogether, these interactions span 276 individual medications.
Use the medication checker on this page to look up your exact drugs before you start.

Horse Chestnut seed extract
Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs
Horse chestnut may have antiplatelet effects and may increase the risk of bleeding if used with anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs.
Horse chestnut contains the constituent esculin which has been shown to have antithrombotic effects. Therefore, horse chestnut might have antiplatelet effects. This has not been shown in humans.
