What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: gentian root extract in dry form. Gentian has been used in traditional herbal medicine, though we don't have strong evidence for most of its claimed uses yet.
The liquid also contains alcohol, water, and glycerin as inactive ingredients.
Does it work?
Not established
The evidence we hold doesn't establish that gentian is effective for wound healing, weight loss, sinus inflammation, or gastritis. All of these uses are rated as having insufficient reliable evidence.
That doesn't mean gentian doesn't work for these purposes — it means the studies aren't solid enough yet to know either way.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Gentian is generally well tolerated in small amounts by healthy adults, though it can upset your stomach. We don't have good data on what happens at higher doses.
In one trial, patients taking gentian combined with turmeric and ginger reported nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and bloating — though it's unclear how much gentian alone was responsible. The safety data advises against using gentian during pregnancy and while breastfeeding.
There isn't enough reliable information to know it's safe in those situations.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Check all blood pressure medications (antihypertensives) with your pharmacist before taking this product. The moderate-severity interaction could lower your blood pressure too much.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no established evidence rating for its marketed use. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Gentian may be worth considering if you're interested in traditional herbal approaches, but the evidence for its benefits isn't established yet. If you take blood pressure medication, you'll need to check with your pharmacist or doctor first — this product could lower your pressure further.
If you're pregnant or breastfeeding, skip it.
