Gentle DigestEnz is a blend of 16 active enzymes designed to support digestion. The checked ingredients include protease (breaks down protein), lipase (breaks down fat), lactase (breaks down lactose in milk), and phytase (works on plant compounds).
Several other enzymes — amylase, cellulase, peptidase, invertase, glucoamylase, alpha-galactosidase, xylanase, pectinase, maltase, beta-glucanase, hemicellulase, and diastase — are also present but less documented in our data. The product also contains plant fiber and water as inactive ingredients.

Strong evidence
Evidence for most of these enzymes is limited. Lactase is rated effective for lactose intolerance — if you can't digest milk sugar well, this ingredient may help.
For the others — lipase and phytase included — the evidence for digestive support or other conditions we checked isn't established in our data, or is rated insufficient to draw firm conclusions. The effectiveness of the full blend hasn't been established in controlled trials we hold on file.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Protease, lipase, lactase, and phytase are generally well tolerated by most adults when taken by mouth. Rare allergic reactions to these enzymes have been reported in people with direct occupational exposure (like workers in enzyme manufacturing).
Occasional digestive upset may occur. For pregnancy, lactase is likely safe; protease and lipase should be used only if your doctor advises it, since safety data are limited.
Phytase has not been studied enough in pregnancy — check with your doctor first. For breastfeeding, all four checked ingredients have limited data, so talk with your healthcare provider before regular use.

ProEnzol Gentle DigestEnz provides a broad-spectrum blend of acid-resistant, non-animal derived digestive enzymes to assist in the maintenance of healthy digestion by helping the body's own enzymes break down and assimilate dietary protein, carbohydrates, fat and fiber.
