What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains a single active ingredient: guanabana fruit extract (also called graviola). The extract comes as a powder with no inactive fillers or other ingredients listed.
Does it work?
Couldn't assess
The evidence we hold doesn't establish that guanabana extract works for any of the conditions it's marketed for. Studies have rated the reliability of evidence as insufficient for HPV infection, headache, insect repellent use, and male infertility.
If you're considering it for one of these purposes, there's no established proof it'll help.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Regular use of guanabana extract raises safety concerns. The most common side effects from oral use are stomach pain and nausea; one study reported these in participants taking 300 mg daily of graviola leaf extract.
Serious but rare effects include movement disorders and nerve damage (myeloneuropathy) that can resemble Parkinson disease symptoms. Long-term use may pose a risk of nerve toxicity.
The safety data for pregnancy and breastfeeding is limited and advises against use in both—you should avoid this product if you're pregnant or breastfeeding. Additionally, if you have Parkinson disease or a family history of it, talk with your doctor before using this extract, since even small amounts may worsen motor and cognitive symptoms.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
If you take carbamazepine (Tegretol) for seizures, check with your pharmacist or doctor before starting this product—graviola may reduce how well the medication works.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no assessable stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Guanabana extract is not established to work for any condition we have data on, and regular use carries real safety concerns—stomach upset is common, and rare nerve damage has been reported. If you take carbamazepine for seizures, do not use this without talking to your pharmacist first.
