Guggul is generally well tolerated when taken by mouth, but side effects do occur. The most common are belching, bloating, diarrhea, headache, nausea, unpleasant taste, and vomiting.

Skin reactions — both allergic and non-allergic rashes — are also frequent and appear to be dose-dependent; higher doses carry more risk. Rarely, it can cause a serious muscle breakdown condition called rhabdomyolysis.

The safety data advises against guggul during pregnancy because it may stimulate the uterus and safety is not established. There isn't enough safety information to use it while breastfeeding.

Guggulsteroids have been shown in studies to maintain normal blood lipid levels, support a fine skin texture by decreasing the appearance of blemishes and optimize thyroid gland function (thus supporting ideal fat loss and body weight). Guggulbolic combines 30 mg of pure E & Z guggulsterones along with a special, dark brown guggul extract which is standardized for an utlra-potent 6% total guggulsteroids and which conforms to all Ayurvedic standards.
