Zinc
Zinc is a mineral that is essential for the proper functioning of the human body. It is involved in many important physiological processes, including immune system function, wound healing, taste, and smell. Zinc is found in a variety of foods, including meat, seafood, and whole grains, and it is also available as a dietary supplement. Zinc supplements may be used to treat or prevent zinc deficiency, which can occur due to certain medical conditions, such as gastrointestinal disorders, alcohol abuse, and certain medications. Zinc supplements may also be used for other purposes, such as to boost the immune system, improve acne, and reduce the severity and duration of colds. There are several different forms of zinc supplements available, including zinc gluconate, zinc acetate, and zinc sulfate. The most common form of zinc supplements is zinc gluconate, which is well absorbed and is less likely to cause stomach-related side effects than other forms of zinc.

L-Glutamine
Description:L-glutamine is the most abundant free amino acid in the body, produced primarily in skeletal muscle and then released into circulation. It serves vital roles in various tissues, including the immune system, gastrointestinal tract, kidneys, and liver, where it supports essential functions such as maintaining intestinal integrity, immune response, and amino acid balance. Although traditionally classified as a non-essential amino acid, during periods of severe stress, glutamine becomes conditionally essential due to the body's increased demand. It acts as a critical nitrogen and carbon transporter between organs, and while the intestinal mucosa can synthesize glutamine, this production is insufficient during times of significant physiological stress. Dietary supplements generally contain L-glutamine as it is the biologically active form of the amino acid.

deglycyrrhizinated Licorice
Description:Licorice, also known as glycyrrhiza, is a plant native to parts of Europe, Asia, and the Mediterranean region. The root of the plant has been used for centuries in traditional medicine and is often consumed in the form of candy, tea, and supplements. Licorice has a number of purported health benefits, including the ability to soothe sore throats, reduce inflammation, and improve digestive problems. It may also have antiviral and antibacterial properties. Licorice naturally contains glycyrrhizin, or glycyrrhizic acid, which can have toxic effects if consumed in large amounts. However, licorice can be processed to remove glycyrrhizin, resulting in DGL (deglycyrrhizinated licorice). Many dietary supplements that contain deglycyrrhizinated licorice are often simply named 'DGL'.

Marshmallow
Description:Marshmallow, often referred to as marshmallow root, is a plant from the Althaea genus that is native to Europe, Western Asia, and North Africa. Marshmallow has been used in traditional medicine for its soothing and anti-inflammatory properties, and as a natural remedy for various ailments, such as coughs, colds, and digestive problems. Both the marshmallow leaf and the dried root are used in herbal preparations.

Spirulina
Description:Blue-green algae, also known as cyanobacteria, are a type of aquatic microorganism. The term 'blue-green algae' can refer to many different types of algae, including Arthrospira genus, which is known as spirulina, and Aphanizomenon flos-aquae, commonly known as 'Klamath', as it is found in Klamath Lake, Oregon. Blue-green algae contain several different nutrients, including vitamins A, B6, B12, E, and K, iron, manganese, zinc, sodium, potassium, phosphorus, calcium, magnesium, copper, selenium, and chromium. Blue-green algae have been shown in some samples to be contaminated with several types of toxins, including microcystins and heavy metals, so it is important to only take supplements that are properly tested, processed, and produced.

Maitake
Description:Maitake mushrooms, also known as Grifola frondosa or "hen of the woods," are a type of edible mushroom native to Japan and parts of China and North America. They have a distinctive, fan-shaped appearance and are often found growing at the base of trees. Maitake mushrooms are known for their flavor and texture, as well as their purported health benefits. They are high in antioxidants and may have anti-inflammatory, immune-boosting, and blood sugar-regulating effects. In traditional Japanese medicine, maitake mushrooms have been used to treat a variety of conditions, including high blood pressure and diabetes. Supplements containing maitake mushrooms often highlight the "D-fraction" of beta-glucan and a type of protein called "SX-fraction".

Bacillus coagulans
Description:Bacillus coagulans, also known as Weizmannia coagulans or Lactobacillus sporogenes, is a spore-forming, lactic acid-producing, Gram-positive bacterium used as a probiotic. Bacillus coagulans has shown benefits for constipation and irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). Its spores are stable in stomach acid and reach the small intestine, where they germinate and multiply, with around 85% reaching their destination. The bacterium is excreted via feces, with spores detectable up to 7 days post-administration. Mechanistically, Bacillus coagulans exhibits antibacterial effects through the production of coagulin, lactic acid, and lactosporin, reducing pathogenic bacteria colonization. It also demonstrates antifungal properties and anti-inflammatory effects, potentially reducing the growth of pathogenic bacteria and decreasing the production of lipopolysaccharides. Bacillus coagulans may stimulate immune response, as evidenced by increased CD4+ T cells in adults with HIV-1 infection and modulation of inflammatory cytokines in schoolchildren. These properties categorize Bacillus coagulans as an immunomodulator, immunostimulant, and probiotic, with potential therapeutic applications in promoting digestive health and immune function.
