What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: L-lysine, an amino acid your body uses to build and repair tissue. The capsule also holds cellulose and croscarmellose as inactive ingredients — standard binders and flow agents.
Does it work?
Not established
L-Lysine is possibly effective for cold sores (herpes labialis) — the evidence suggests it may help, though more research would nail down how much and how long you'd need to take it. For child growth, pressure ulcers, and diabetic foot ulcers, we don't have enough reliable evidence yet to say whether it works.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Lysine is generally well tolerated at normal doses. At high amounts, you may experience stomach upset, including abdominal pain, diarrhea, or indigestion.
Long-term safety at high doses hasn't been well studied. For pregnancy, the safety data on supplements isn't solid enough yet — food lysine is fine, but talk with your doctor before taking a lysine supplement while pregnant or breastfeeding to decide what's right for you.
Meds to double-check
Minor interactions only
Before you start, double-check if you take any 5-HT4 agonists (stomach motility drugs like cisapride or domperidone) — lysine may reduce how well they work. Confirm with your doctor or pharmacist that it's okay to combine them.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no established evidence rating for its marketed use. Only minor medication interactions are documented, and safety information is well characterized.
If you're dealing with cold sores, lysine may be worth trying — the evidence suggests it could help. But if you take a 5-HT4 agonist (a stomach motility drug), check with your doctor or pharmacist first.
At normal doses it's generally well tolerated, though some people get stomach upset. Talk it over with your own healthcare provider before adding it to your routine.
