Every active ingredient lists its own amount on the label.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 1 of its 1 active ingredient.
  • No proprietary blends here — you can verify the dose of every single component.

This product contains one active ingredient: magnolia bark extract standardized to 90% honokiol and magnolol, the two main compounds in magnolia that research suggests drive its effects. The capsule itself is made up of inactive ingredients—the plant-based capsule material (hydroxypropyl methylcellulose), a filler (microcrystalline cellulose), and L-leucine—but these don't contribute to the product's therapeutic action.

Insufficient evidence
Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
Insufficient

There isn't enough reliable clinical evidence to rate this product's ingredients for its stated purpose.

Why this rating?
  • The label markets this product for: anxiety and stress management, sleep support.
  • We looked for evidence on: Anxiety, Stress, Sleep disorders, Insomnia.
  • The closest evidence on file: Magnolia is rated "Insufficient Reliable Evidence To Rate" for Anxiety (Natural Medicines).
  • Also on file: Magnolia is rated "Insufficient Reliable Evidence To Rate" for Stress.

Magnolia extract is possibly effective for gingivitis (gum inflammation). For allergic rhinitis (hay fever), anxiety, and dental plaque buildup, the evidence we hold isn't strong enough to say whether it works—these fall into insufficient reliable evidence territory.

If you're considering this for one of those conditions, talk with your doctor about whether the current research supports a trial.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 1 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

Taken by mouth, magnolia is generally well tolerated. That said, human safety data is limited, especially for long-term use.

In a few trial participants taking a combination product with magnolia, there were scattered reports of sexual dysfunction, shaking hands, numbness around the mouth, fatigue, and headache—but it's unclear whether magnolia itself was responsible. Magnolia is not recommended in pregnancy; safety data advises against it because of concerns it may affect the uterus.

There isn't reliable safety information for breastfeeding, so it's best avoided then too. If you're pregnant, nursing, or planning either, talk with your doctor or pharmacist before taking this.

Moderate interaction found

Moderate identified

The most serious documented interaction for these ingredients is Moderate. Check your medications for a personalized result.

Why this rating?
  • 1 of the 1 matched ingredient can interact with medications — Magnolia.
  • The most serious interaction on file is rated Moderate.
  • Some involve high-stakes drug classes: anticoagulant / antiplatelet drugs.
  • For scale: 351 individual medications appear in the full list. A big number alone doesn't make a product dangerous — what matters is whether YOUR medication is on it, so run yours through the interaction checker on this page.

Check your medications against this product if you take blood thinners or antiplatelet drugs (like warfarin, aspirin, or clopidogrel)—magnolia may raise bleeding risk. Also double-check any CNS depressants: sedating drugs, sleep aids, benzodiazepines, or opioids may have deeper effects when paired with magnolia.

Your doctor or pharmacist can confirm whether it's safe to use together.

The bottom line

Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with insufficient evidence for its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.

Magnolia extract may help with gingivitis, but the evidence for other common uses—hay fever, anxiety, plaque—isn't established. It's generally well tolerated, but it can thin the blood and deepen sedation, so if you take blood thinners, antiplatelet drugs, or sedating medications, check with your doctor or pharmacist first.

It's not recommended in pregnancy or while breastfeeding.

Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs

Theoretically, magnolia might have additive effects and increase the risk of bleeding when used with anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs.
In vitro research shows that the chemicals magnolol and honokiol, isolated from magnolia bark, inhibit platelet aggregation that is experimentally induced by collagen and arachidonic acid. However, they do not inhibit platelet aggregation that is induced by adenosine diphosphate, platelet-activating factor, or thrombin. This interaction has not been reported in humans.

Likelihood Possible Evidence D
Cns Depressants

Theoretically, concomitant use of large doses of magnolia bark and CNS depressants might have additive effects.
In vitro and animal research shows that constituents extracted from magnolia bark, especially honokiol and magnolol, have sedative effects. These effects may be due to the inhibition of catecholamine release and modulation of gamma-aminobutyric acid-A (GABA-A) receptors.
