What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking Marshmallow Leaf against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: marshmallow leaf glycerite liquid extract. A glycerite is an herbal extract made by soaking the plant material in glycerin, which preserves the plant compounds and makes the supplement easier to take as a liquid.
The only other ingredient is glycerin itself, which is the solvent that carries the marshmallow extract.
Does it work?
Couldn't assess
The evidence we hold doesn't establish that marshmallow leaf is effective for any condition. The data available show insufficient reliable evidence to rate it for vaginal yeast infections, diarrhea, leg ulcers, eczema, or respiratory tract infections.
That doesn't mean it doesn't work — it means well-designed human studies haven't yet proven its benefit for these uses.
How safe is it?
Some data gaps
Marshmallow leaf is generally well tolerated for short-term use, but human safety data are limited, so we don't know how it performs with longer-term or repeated use. During pregnancy and while breastfeeding, there isn't enough reliable safety information, so the data advise against it.
If you're pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding, talk with your doctor or pharmacist about whether this product is right for you.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before you start this product, check with your doctor or pharmacist if you take lithium — marshmallow may increase its levels in your blood. Also double-check any oral medications you take regularly: you'll want to space marshmallow doses 30 to 60 minutes apart from them to avoid lowering their absorption.
If you're on a blood thinner like warfarin or aspirin, mention this product to your provider as well.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no assessable stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and some safety-information gaps remain.
TerraVita Marshmallow Leaf is a single-ingredient supplement whose long-term safety and effectiveness haven't been well established. It does interact with lithium and can affect how your body absorbs other oral medications, and anyone on those drugs should check with their own doctor or pharmacist first.
If you're pregnant or breastfeeding, the safety data advise against it — discuss it with your healthcare provider.

Marshmallow Leaf by TerraVita Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
TerraVita Marshmallow Leaf has documented interactions through its marshmallow leaf extract with lithium and oral medications, plus a minor theoretical concern with blood thinners.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
The most serious interaction is with lithium. Marshmallow is thought to have diuretic properties (it makes you produce more urine), which might reduce how your kidneys clear lithium from your body.
If levels build up too high, you could develop lithium toxicity. If you take lithium, your doctor may need to adjust your dose when starting marshmallow.
Marshmallow also contains mucilage, a thick substance that can coat your digestive tract and potentially slow down how your body absorbs other oral medications you take by mouth. To minimize this, space out your doses — take marshmallow at least 30 to 60 minutes after your other medications.
Additionally, marshmallow flower extract shows antiplatelet effects in animal research, meaning it might theoretically add to the blood-thinning action of anticoagulants or antiplatelet drugs like warfarin or aspirin. Since this product uses the leaf rather than the flower, this concern is largely theoretical, but it's still worth mentioning to your doctor or pharmacist if you're on a blood thinner.

Marshmallow Leaf Glycerite Liquid Extract
Lithium
Theoretically, due to potential diuretic effects, marshmallow might reduce excretion and increase levels of lithium.
Marshmallow is thought to have diuretic properties. To avoid lithium toxicity, the dose of lithium might need to be decreased when used with marshmallow.
Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs
Theoretically, marshmallow flower might have antiplatelet effects.
Animal research suggests that marshmallow flower extract has antiplatelet effects. However, the root and leaf of marshmallow, not the flower, are the plant parts most commonly found in dietary supplements. Theoretically, use of marshmallow flower with anticoagulant/antiplatelet drugs can have additive effects, and might increase the risk for bleeding in some patients.
Oral Drugs
Theoretically, mucilage in marshmallow might impair absorption of oral drugs.
Marshmallow contains mucilage which can affect oral drug absorption. To avoid changes in absorption, take marshmallow 30-60 minutes after oral medications.
