MSM 500 mg Ingredients & Drug Interactions
by Country Life
What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking MSM 500 mg against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy

Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
Country Life's MSM 500 mg contains 2 active ingredients: MSM (methylsulfonylmethane) and sulfur. MSM is a naturally occurring compound sometimes used in joint and connective-tissue support; the sulfur here is the element that MSM provides.
The tablet also contains inactive ingredients — cellulose, stearic acid, a cellulose and glycerin coating, silica, magnesium stearate, and vegetable glaze — which are fillers and binders that hold the tablet together.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
The evidence for what sulfur in this form can do is mixed. It's rated possibly effective for scabies and dandruff.
For acne, allergic rhinitis (hay fever), chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and common cold, there isn't enough reliable evidence yet to say whether it works. We hold no effectiveness data for MSM in the way you're getting it here.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Sulfur is generally well tolerated, though the data here focuses mainly on topical (skin) use. When taken by mouth, sulfur can cause diarrhea and, in rare cases tied to very high doses over several days, has been reported to trigger metabolic acidosis (a serious change in blood chemistry).
If you have diabetes or kidney problems, this risk may be higher. Limited data exist on oral sulfur supplements, so talk with your doctor or pharmacist before starting, especially if you have underlying health conditions.
For pregnancy and breastfeeding, sulfur is rated possibly safe, but the safety data is limited. There isn't enough information to know either way, so discuss this supplement with your doctor or pharmacist if you're pregnant or nursing to get personalized advice.
Meds to double-check
No known interactions
No interactions are documented in our data for the ingredients we could check. That said, we hold no interaction data for MSM itself.
If you take any medications, use the search tool on this page with your exact drug names, or run the product past your own doctor or pharmacist to be sure.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with some supporting evidence behind its ingredients' uses. No medication interactions are currently documented, and safety information is well characterized.
MSM 500 mg from Country Life may be worth considering if you're interested in joint support or the possible benefits for scabies or dandruff, though the evidence for most uses isn't firm yet. Be aware that oral sulfur is less well studied than topical forms and can cause diarrhea or, at very high doses, more serious effects — especially if you have kidney or blood-sugar issues.
Talk it over with your doctor or pharmacist before you start, particularly if you're pregnant, nursing, or have any chronic health conditions.
