MycoActive Ingredients & Drug Interactions
What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking MycoActive against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy

HelloPharmacist Scorecard of MycoActive by Ortho Molecular Products
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Low disclosure
MycoActive is a blend of six mushroom-derived ingredients. The active components are chaga extract, cordyceps, reishi fruiting body extract powder, turkey tail powder, pearl oyster powder, and shiitake fruiting body extract powder.
The capsules also contain inactive ingredients — hypromellose, microcrystalline cellulose, silicon dioxide, and magnesium stearate — which serve as fillers and binders to form and stabilize the capsule.
Does it work?
Couldn't assess
The evidence for MycoActive's individual ingredients is limited. Chaga has insufficient reliable evidence for cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and COVID-19.
Cordyceps shows possibly ineffective evidence for athletic performance and insufficient evidence for sexual dysfunction, heart rhythm issues, asthma, and lung health. Reishi is possibly ineffective for high cholesterol and has insufficient evidence for altitude sickness, Alzheimer's disease, and athletic performance.
Shiitake is possibly ineffective for dental plaque and has insufficient evidence for chemotherapy side effects, atherosclerosis, and cancer-related concerns. Overall, we hold no established effectiveness data for this product as a whole.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Chaga and cordyceps are generally well tolerated short-term, though human safety data are limited. Chaga carries a specific concern: excessive consumption has been linked in rare cases to kidney problems due to its high oxalate content.
Cordyceps may cause abdominal discomfort, constipation, or diarrhea, though these are uncommon. There is one case report of liver inflammation possibly linked to a cordyceps product, though it's unclear if cordyceps or a contaminant was responsible.
Reishi is generally well tolerated and may cause dizziness, dry mouth, itching, nausea, rash, or stomach upset. Shiitake, when cooked and eaten as food, is generally well tolerated.
Raw or concentrated shiitake supplements can trigger shiitake dermatitis (a distinctive skin eruption) or allergic reactions including asthma and respiratory inflammation, especially with prolonged handling or exposure.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before taking MycoActive, check with your doctor or pharmacist if you take blood thinners or antiplatelet drugs (warfarin, aspirin, clopidogrel, and others), immune-suppressing medications (cyclosporine, tacrolimus, and others), blood sugar medications (metformin, sulfonylureas, insulin, and others), blood pressure medications, or drugs metabolized by the CYP2D6 liver enzyme (including certain antidepressants and heart medications). Moderate-severity interactions are documented for all of these categories.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFormula with limited ingredient disclosure with no assessable stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
MycoActive is a mushroom blend with several documented interactions with blood thinners, immune suppressants, blood sugar medications, blood pressure medications, and certain liver-processed drugs. If you take any prescription medication — especially for blood clotting, immune function, diabetes, or hypertension — check your specific drugs against the tool on this page or ask your doctor or pharmacist before starting.
Long-term safety data for most of these ingredients are limited, and chaga carries a rare risk of kidney problems with very high intake.

MycoActive by Ortho Molecular Products Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
MycoActive by Ortho Molecular Products contains several mushroom extracts that interact with medications.
Through its chaga, cordyceps, reishi, and shiitake content, the product has Moderate-severity interactions with blood thinners (anticoagulants/antiplatelet drugs) — the most serious finding — where these ingredients may theoretically increase bleeding risk based on lab and animal research, though no human cases have been reported.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
The product also carries Moderate interactions with immune-suppressing medications (immunosuppressants), where chaga, cordyceps, reishi, and shiitake may theoretically interfere with their intended effect by stimulating immune function. Chaga and reishi have Moderate interactions with blood sugar medications (antidiabetes drugs), with a theoretical risk of low blood sugar (hypoglycemia).
Reishi alone has a Moderate interaction with blood pressure medications (antihypertensive drugs), which might lower blood pressure further. Shiitake has a Moderate interaction with a specific group of drugs processed by a liver enzyme called CYP2D6, where it might reduce drug levels — this group includes certain antidepressants, antiarrhythmics, and other medications.
We could not check turkey tail or pearl oyster; interaction data for those ingredients are not on file. Altogether, these interactions span 662 individual medications.
Before you start this product, use the medication search tool on this page to check your exact prescriptions, or talk with your doctor or pharmacist.

For each ingredient in MycoActive with known interactions, here are the types of medications they can affect. Open any type for the detail — or search your exact drug in the checker above.
Reishi Fruiting Body Extract, Powder
Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs
Theoretically, high doses of reishi mushroom might increase the risk of bleeding.
A dose of 1.5 grams daily of reishi mushroom does not seem to decrease platelet aggregation, but a higher dose of 3 grams daily does.
Antidiabetes Drugs
Theoretically, reishi mushroom might have additive effects with antidiabetes drugs.
Animal research suggests that reishi mushroom decreases blood sugar. However, in patients with type 2 diabetes, taking reishi mushroom does not reduce fasting glucose levels, and its effects on glycated hemoglobin are inconsistent.
Antihypertensive Drugs
Theoretically, concurrent use of reishi mushroom with antihypertensive drugs might increase the risk of hypotension.
Reishi mushroom has shown hypotensive activity in animal research. Clinical evidence suggests that reishi mushroom reduces blood pressure in some, but not all, patients with hypertension.
Chaga Extract
Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs
Theoretically, chaga may increase the risk of bleeding if used with anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs.
In vitro and animal research suggests that chaga extract can inhibit platelet aggregation. This effect has not been reported in humans.
Antidiabetes Drugs
Theoretically, taking chaga with antidiabetes drugs might increase the risk of hypoglycemia.
Animal research suggests that chaga might decrease blood glucose levels and increase insulin levels. This has not been reported in humans.
Immunosuppressants
Theoretically, chaga might interfere with immunosuppressive therapy.
In vitro research suggests that certain constituents of chaga stimulate immune function. This has not been reported in humans.
Shiitake Fruiting Body Extract, Powder
Cytochrome P450 2D6 (Cyp2D6) Substrates
Theoretically, shiitake mushroom might decrease levels of drugs metabolized by CYP2D6.
In vitro studies suggest that the shiitake mushroom extract AHCC might induce the CYP2D6 enzyme. This effect has not been reported in humans.
Immunosuppressants
Theoretically, taking shiitake mushroom might decrease the effects of immunosuppressive therapy.
In vitro evidence suggests that shiitake mushroom extracts stimulate immune function.
Cordyceps
Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs
Theoretically, cordyceps may increase the risk of bleeding when used with antiplatelet or anticoagulant drugs.
In vitro and animal research suggests that cordyceps extract inhibits platelet aggregation and function. However, this interaction has not been reported in humans.
Immunosuppressants
Theoretically, concurrent use of cordyceps might interfere with immunosuppressive therapy.
Animal and in vitro research suggests that cordyceps stimulates the immune system. However, limited clinical research suggests that taking cordyceps may lower the necessary therapeutic dose of the immunosuppressant cyclosporine, which suggests that cordyceps may have an immunosuppressive effect.
Testosterone
Theoretically, concurrent use of cordyceps and testosterone might have additive effects.
Animal research suggests that cordyceps can increase testosterone levels. The clinical significance of this finding is unclear.
