Every active ingredient lists its own amount on the label.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 3 of its 3 active ingredients.
  • No proprietary blends here — you can verify the dose of every single component.

This softgel contains 3 active ingredients: pumpkin seed oil, polyunsaturated fat, and monounsaturated fat. Pumpkin seed oil is the main active component — it's an oil extracted from pumpkin seeds that's traditionally used for urinary and prostate health.

The fats come from the oil itself and form the core of what you're taking. The capsule is a vegetarian softgel, which is the inactive ingredient that holds everything together.

Does it work?

Moderate evidence
Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
Moderate

Some clinical evidence supports this product's ingredients for its stated purpose, but it isn't conclusive.

Why this rating?
  • The label markets this product for: prostate and urinary tract health support.
  • We looked for evidence on: Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), Overactive bladder, urinary function, prostate function.
  • The strongest evidence on file: Pumpkin is rated "Possibly Effective" for Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) (Natural Medicines).
  • Also on file: Pumpkin is rated "Insufficient Reliable Evidence To Rate" for Overactive bladder.

Pumpkin seed oil is possibly effective for benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) — a common condition in older men where the prostate gland enlarges. For other conditions listed — androgenic alopecia (male-pattern hair loss), interstitial cystitis (bladder pain), intestinal parasites, and urinary tract infections — the evidence we hold is insufficient to rate it either way.

That doesn't mean it doesn't work; it means the research isn't robust enough yet to say.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 1 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

Orally, pumpkin seed oil is generally well tolerated in adults. The most common side effects reported are abdominal discomfort, diarrhea, nausea, and vomiting — usually mild.

Anaphylaxis (a severe allergic reaction) is rare. There are also two case reports of hair loss and severe nausea and vomiting linked to high concentrations of cucurbitacin, a compound in wild or bitter-tasting pumpkins; commercial seed oils are unlikely to contain such high levels.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding safety data are not on file for concentrated pumpkin seed oil supplements — talk with your doctor or pharmacist about whether this product is right for you during these times, since food-form pumpkin is fine but concentrated supplements haven't been well studied.

Natural Pumpkin Seed Oil Softgel 1000 mg by Micro Ingredients: Common Questions

Does Natural Pumpkin Seed Oil Softgel 1000 mg by Micro Ingredients interact with any medications?
Yes. Based on its ingredients, Natural Pumpkin Seed Oil Softgel 1000 mg has a known interaction with 1 medication. Use the checker to see how it interacts with a specific drug.
How can one product interact with so many drugs?
Natural Pumpkin Seed Oil Softgel 1000 mg contains a single active ingredient, and that one ingredient can interact with many different medications on its own. We check it against each medication and show the mechanism responsible.
Where does this information come from?
The product label data comes from the NIH Dietary Supplement Label Database (DSLD); the interaction data is built on the Natural Medicines database and reviewed by HelloPharmacist pharmacists.
Does pumpkin seed oil actually work for prostate problems?
Pumpkin seed oil is possibly effective for benign prostatic hyperplasia — the noncancerous enlargement of the prostate that happens with age — but the evidence we hold is strongest for that one condition. For other urinary or prostate concerns, the research isn't established enough yet to say.
What side effects might I notice?
Most people tolerate it well. Some trial participants reported mild abdominal discomfort, diarrhea, nausea, or vomiting. Serious reactions like anaphylaxis are very rare. There are also two rare case reports of hair loss or severe stomach upset tied to very high levels of a compound called cucurbitacin — found in wild pumpkins, not commercial seed oils.
Is it safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?
We don't have enough data on concentrated pumpkin seed oil supplements during pregnancy or breastfeeding to say either way. Pumpkin as food is fine, but supplements are different. Talk with your doctor or pharmacist for personalized advice on whether this product is right for you.
What are polyunsaturated and monounsaturated fats doing in here?
They're the fats naturally present in pumpkin seed oil itself — they're not added separately. Pumpkin seeds are naturally rich in healthy fats, and those are part of what makes the oil work.
Can I take this if I'm on lithium?
Not without talking to your doctor first. Pumpkin seed oil may reduce how your body clears lithium and raise its levels, which is a Moderate concern. Your doctor may need to adjust your dose or monitor you more closely.
