What’s inside
Full disclosure
Oligo Copper is a liquid supplement with a single active ingredient: copper. Copper is an essential mineral your body needs in small amounts for proper nerve function, bone strength, and blood cell formation.
There are no other inactive ingredients listed for this product.
Does it work?
Strong evidence
Copper supplementation is likely effective for treating copper deficiency. For Alzheimer's disease, the evidence suggests it may be ineffective.
For acne, chemotherapy-induced anemia, and brain tumors, there isn't enough reliable evidence in our data to rate whether it works. If you're considering this supplement for any of those other purposes, talk it over with your doctor about what the research actually supports.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Copper from food and standard supplements is generally well tolerated, but excess copper can become toxic — so it's important not to overdo it. Rare cases of contact dermatitis have been reported.
In a small clinical trial of topical copper sulfate in very young children, a few developed superficial burns, so extra caution applies to infants and topical use. People with diabetes should know that studies show they often have higher blood copper levels than others, though we don't yet know if that higher copper contributes to diabetes itself.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before you start Oligo Copper, double-check with your doctor or pharmacist if you take penicillamine — you'll need to space them 2 hours apart. Also flag it if you use any oral contraceptive drug, so you can monitor your copper levels together.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with clinical evidence supporting its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Oligo Copper makes sense if you have a documented copper deficiency and your doctor recommends supplementation. If you take penicillamine or birth control pills, check with your own doctor or pharmacist before adding this product — the interactions are real, though manageable.
For other uses (Alzheimer's, acne, or cancer-related anemia), the evidence doesn't support it yet.

Copper monograph & interactionsOligo Copper by MBi Nutraceuticals Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Oligo Copper by MBi Nutraceuticals contains one active ingredient — copper — which interacts with penicillamine (a medication used to treat Wilson's disease and arthritis) and oral contraceptive drugs.
The most serious concern is penicillamine: copper binds to it and reduces how much your body absorbs, which may weaken the medication's effects. You'd need to space them at least 2 hours apart.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Oral contraceptives are a minor concern. Studies show that long-term use of birth control pills raises copper levels in your blood by an average of 57 micrograms per deciliter, often pushing levels above the normal range.
For most people this hasn't caused documented harm, but it's worth flagging if you take both.
Altogether, these interactions span 31 individual medications. If you take penicillamine or any oral contraceptive, check the exact medication names with the search tool on this page before you start.

Copper
Penicillamine (Cuprimine, Depen)
Theoretically, taking copper with penicillamine might decrease the absorption of penicillamine; separate dosing by at least 2 hours.
Copper chelates penicillamine, which decreases its absorption and may reduce its clinical effects.
Contraceptive Drugs
Theoretically, taking copper with contraceptive drugs might increase the levels and toxic effects of copper.
A meta-analysis of clinical studies suggests that chronic use of oral contraceptives increases serum copper levels by a mean of 57 mcg/dL. In most people, this resulted in levels above the normal reference range for copper.
