Tomato concentrate is generally well tolerated in typical food amounts and in extract form, though concentrated supplements are less studied than whole tomatoes. Rare serious side effects can occur with excessive consumption of tomatine (a compound in tomato leaves and unripe green tomatoes), including dizziness, headache, and digestive upset.

An airborne allergy to tomato stem proteins has been reported in one case. Resveratrol is generally well tolerated at typical supplement doses, though higher doses may cause digestive upset, diarrhea, or loose stools.

Safety is not fully established long-term. During pregnancy, resveratrol safety information is insufficient—the data advises against supplement use.

While breastfeeding, the data also advises against it due to insufficient safety information. One case of a skin rash was reported in a trial and resolved after stopping resveratrol.

Also, a pharmacokinetic study shows that taking resveratrol 500 mg daily for 10 days prior to taking a single dose of chlorzoxazone 250 mg increases the maximum concentration of chlorzoxazone by about 54%, the area under the curve of chlorzoxazone by about 72%, and the half-life of chlorzoxazone by about 35%. Chlorzoxazone is used as a probe drug for CYP2E1.
