This softgel contains 420 mg of phosphatidylcholine, a compound found naturally in cell membranes that your body uses for cell structure and signaling. The 4 active ingredients also include lecithin, polyunsaturated fat, and monounsaturated fat — fats that help with absorption and support the formulation.
You'll also find bovine gelatin, glycerin, purified water, and soybean oil as inactive ingredients that make up the capsule and help deliver the dose.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
Phosphatidylcholine is possibly effective for ulcerative colitis, a condition causing inflammation and sores in your colon. For fatty liver disease (both nonalcoholic and alcohol-related) and Alzheimer disease, there isn't enough reliable evidence yet to know if it helps.
Lecithin is likely ineffective for Alzheimer disease, and we don't have enough data for it in age-related cognitive decline or other conditions this product might be marketed for.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Both phosphatidylcholine and lecithin are generally well tolerated at typical supplement doses. The most common side effects from phosphatidylcholine taken by mouth are digestive — altered taste, bloating, diarrhea, nausea, and vomiting.
Lecithin can cause similar effects: abdominal pain, diarrhea, fullness, and nausea. If you have an egg or soy allergy, be aware that lecithin can trigger allergic skin reactions.
High doses of phosphatidylcholine (above what's in this product) are more likely to cause upset stomach. Choline, which phosphatidylcholine provides, is needed during pregnancy, but the safety of supplement doses beyond what you get from food hasn't been well studied — talk with your doctor before using this while pregnant.
