Fig fruit is generally well tolerated as food, but concentrated leaf products are much less studied—and this product contains bud extract, which falls into a gray zone with limited safety data. Fig leaf can cause photodermatitis (severe sun-related skin burns), including some cases serious enough to require hospitalization.
Black currant berries as food are fine, but concentrated supplements lack safety data; in one trial, a small number of participants taking black currant seed oil reported mild diarrhea a few days after starting. Black alder has very limited safety information and may cause nausea or stomach upset.
Fig is rated likely safe in pregnancy and lactation, but black currant and black alder lack sufficient data—talk with your doctor before using this product if you're pregnant or breastfeeding.

Fig (Ficus carica) bud extract
Antidiabetes Drugs
Theoretically, fig leaf might enhance the blood glucose lowering effects of hypoglycemic drugs.
A small clinical study in patients with type 1 diabetes shows that consuming a tea made from fig leaves modestly reduces postprandial glucose levels and insulin requirements.
Insulin
Fig leaf may enhance the blood glucose lowering effects of insulin.

Photosensitizing Drugs
Theoretically, fig might increase the risk of photosensitivity when used in combination with photosensitizing drugs.
Many cases of photodermatitis from fig leaf have been reported. Some drugs that also cause photosensitivity include amitriptyline (Elavil), quinolones (Ciprofloxacin, others), sulfa drugs (Septra, Bactrim, others), and tetracycline.
Black Currant (Ribes nigrum) bud extract
Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs
Theoretically, black currant seed oil might increase the risk of bleeding if used in combination with anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs.
Gamma-linolenic acid (GLA), a constituent of black currant seed oil, appears to have antiplatelet effects.
Phenothiazines
Theoretically, black currant seed oil might increase the risk of seizure in patients receiving phenothiazines.
Black currant seed oil contains gamma-linolenic acid (GLA). There is some concern that taking supplements containing GLA might cause seizures, or lower the seizure threshold, when taken with phenothiazines, although there is no evidence that black currant seed oil causes seizures. In one report, three patients with schizophrenia who had received phenothiazines developed EEG changes suggestive of temporal lobe epilepsy after starting treatment with GLA, although none experienced an actual seizure. In another report, two patients with schizophrenia who were stabilized on phenothiazines developed seizures when evening primrose 4 grams daily, which contains GLA, was added. One of these patients had a prior history of seizures.
Black Alder (Alnus glutinosa) bud extract
Cisplatin (Platinol-Aq)
Laboratory research shows that black alder bark extracts can antagonize the chemotherapeutic effects of cisplatin. This interaction has not been evaluated in humans. Until more is known, use this combination with caution.
Doxorubicin (Adriamycin, Others)
Laboratory research shows that black alder bark extracts can antagonize the chemotherapeutic effects of doxorubicin. This interaction has not been evaluated in humans. Until more is known, use this combination with caution.
