HelloPharmacist Scorecard of Pine Bark Extract by Earthborn Elements
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: maritime pine bark extract. It's the whole formula — a single concentrated plant extract with compounds that may help with circulation and joint health.
The capsule itself is gelatin.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
The evidence on what pine bark extract actually does is mixed. It's possibly effective for osteoarthritis (joint pain and stiffness) and for chronic venous insufficiency (poor circulation in the legs causing swelling and discomfort).
For asthma, the data also rates it possibly effective. However, for high cholesterol (hyperlipidemia), the evidence suggests it's possibly ineffective — so don't count on it to lower your lipid numbers.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Maritime pine bark extract is generally well tolerated in studies, though long-term safety hasn't been fully worked out. The most common side effects when taken by mouth are stomach upset, dizziness, and vertigo.
Headache has been reported in one trial. A couple of rare cases of chest pain and heart failure worsening have been reported, but both patients had serious heart history already, so it's unclear whether the extract caused them.
There isn't enough safety data to know whether it's safe in pregnancy or while breastfeeding — the facts advise against use in both situations. Talk with your doctor or pharmacist if you're pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or nursing before taking this.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before starting this product, check your medications against these types: anticoagulants and antiplatelets (blood thinners and clot preventers) — Moderate risk of increased bleeding; immunosuppressants — Moderate risk they may work less well; antidiabetes drugs — Moderate risk of low blood sugar. Use the search tool on this page to confirm your exact medications.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with some supporting evidence behind its ingredients' uses. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Consider pine bark extract if you're looking into natural options for osteoarthritis, poor leg circulation, or asthma — the evidence suggests it may help. But don't rely on it for cholesterol.
If you take blood thinners, diabetes meds, or immunosuppressants, check with your pharmacist first. Pregnant and nursing people should skip it.

Pine Bark Extract by Earthborn Elements Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Earthborn Elements Pine Bark Extract contains maritime pine bark extract, which interacts with several important medication types.
The most serious concern is anticoagulant and antiplatelet drugs (blood thinners and clot preventers like warfarin, aspirin, and clopidogrel). The extract may inhibit platelet aggregation, theoretically raising your bleeding risk — though we don't yet know how significant this effect is in real patients.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
You'll also want to check if you take immunosuppressants (medications that calm down your immune system after transplant or for autoimmune conditions). Research suggests the extract might stimulate immunity and reduce how well these drugs work, though this hasn't been confirmed in humans.
Similarly, if you're on antidiabetes drugs, the extract may lower your blood sugar further, raising the risk of low blood sugar (hypoglycemia). One clinical study showed this effect; close monitoring and possible dose adjustments would be needed.
Altogether, these interactions span 322 individual medications. Use the medication checker below to look up your exact drugs before you start.
