What’s inside
Full disclosure
This liquid supplement contains one active ingredient: pumpkin seed extract in dry form. The extract is mixed with glycerin and water as inactive ingredients.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
The evidence supports pumpkin seed extract for benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) — a noncancerous enlargement of the prostate gland — where it's rated possibly effective. For other uses — androgenic alopecia (male or female pattern hair loss), interstitial cystitis (bladder pain), intestinal parasites, and urinary tract infections — the evidence in our data is insufficient to rate whether it works.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Pumpkin as food is generally well tolerated. Concentrated seed supplements are considered generally well tolerated for most adults, though the safety of concentrated supplements in pregnancy and breastfeeding is not well studied — talk with your doctor or pharmacist for personalized advice if you're pregnant or nursing.
The most common side effects reported are abdominal discomfort, diarrhea, nausea, and vomiting. Anaphylaxis (a severe allergic reaction) is rare.
There are also two case reports of hair loss in adults who ate meals with bitter-tasting or wild pumpkin — an effect attributed to high cucurbitacin levels — and case reports of severe nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea from the same source.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
If you take lithium, confirm with your doctor or pharmacist before using this product — pumpkin seed extract may reduce how your kidneys clear lithium and increase its levels in your blood.

Pumpkin Alcohol Free by Hawaii Pharm Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Pumpkin Seed Extract from Hawaii Pharm has one documented interaction to watch for: it may affect how your body handles lithium (a mood stabilizer used for bipolar disorder).
Pumpkin is thought to have diuretic properties — it makes your body release more fluid — and this might reduce how much lithium your kidneys excrete, causing levels to build up in your blood. If you take lithium, your doctor may need to adjust your dose.
