What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: pumpkin powder, which is the dried, ground seed of the pumpkin plant. It has no other inactive ingredients listed.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
The evidence for pumpkin powder is mixed. It's possibly effective for benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) — that is, enlarged prostate — but for other uses (hair loss, interstitial cystitis, parasitic infection, and urinary tract infections), the evidence we hold isn't enough to say whether it works.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Pumpkin as a food is generally well tolerated and safe. The most common side effects from pumpkin products are abdominal discomfort, diarrhea, nausea, and vomiting — and these are rare.
There is one very rare report of anaphylaxis (a severe allergic reaction). There are two case reports of hair loss occurring 1–3 weeks after eating bitter-tasting pumpkin or squash, attributed to a high concentration of a compound called cucurbitacin found in wild pumpkins.
For concentrated seed supplements in pregnancy and breastfeeding, there isn't enough safety data to know either way — talk with your doctor or pharmacist for personalized advice.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
If you take lithium, double-check with your doctor or pharmacist before using this product — pumpkin may reduce how your body clears lithium, which could raise your levels.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with some supporting evidence behind its ingredients' uses. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Pumpkin seed powder is generally well tolerated and is possibly effective for enlarged prostate. The main thing to watch for is if you take lithium — you'll want to check with your doctor or pharmacist first.
Most people can use it without problems, but if you have any health conditions or take other medications, it's worth a quick conversation with your own doctor or pharmacist before you start.

HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
TerraVita Premium Collection Pumpkin Seed Powder contains one ingredient — pumpkin powder — that does interact with a medication: lithium, used to treat bipolar disorder and some forms of depression.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Pumpkin is thought to have mild diuretic properties (it may increase how much fluid your body loses). If you take lithium, this could theoretically reduce how your body clears it from your system, raising lithium levels in your blood.
If that happens, you might need a lower lithium dose. Altogether, these interactions span 1 individual medication.
If you take lithium, bring this product with you to your next appointment with your doctor or pharmacist and ask whether it's okay to use together. They may want to check your lithium level more often, or adjust your dose.
