Every active ingredient lists its own amount on the label.

Why this rating?

This product contains a single active ingredient: red raspberry fruit extract. The powder form has no inactive ingredients listed on file.

Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
Not assessable

This is a single-ingredient Red Raspberry product and its label doesn't state a use — see Red Raspberry's own graded uses on its monograph.

Why this rating?
  • We looked at the product name, claims, and label statements and couldn't find a stated purpose to grade.

The evidence we hold does not establish that red raspberry extract is effective for the conditions studied. Its effectiveness for aging skin, cardiovascular disease, respiratory tract infections, congestive heart failure, and diabetes is rated insufficient—meaning the data available isn't strong enough to make a reliable claim either way.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 1 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

Red raspberry fruit is generally well tolerated by most adults when taken orally, though the overall safety evidence is limited. The most common side effects reported are diarrhea, gastrointestinal upset, and epigastric pain (upper abdominal discomfort), though these don't typically occur at standard doses.

A rare case of occupational asthma from inhaling raspberry powder has been reported, with symptoms of wheezing and shortness of breath. For pregnancy, the data suggests it's likely safe, though some sources rate it possibly safe—safety is not well established, so use only with your healthcare provider's guidance.

There isn't enough reliable information to confirm safety while breastfeeding; talk with your doctor or pharmacist about whether it's right for you if you're nursing.

Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs

Theoretically, taking red raspberry leaf with anticoagulant/antiplatelet drugs might increase the risk of bleeding.
In vitro research suggests that red raspberry leaf extract has antiplatelet activity and enhances the in vitro effects of the antiplatelet medication cangrelor. This interaction has not been reported in humans.

Likelihood Possible Evidence D
Insulin

Red raspberry leaf might reduce glucose levels in patients being treated with insulin.
In one case report, a 38-year-old patient with gestational diabetes, whose blood glucose was being controlled with medical nutrition therapy and insulin, developed hypoglycemia after consuming two servings of raspberry leaf tea daily for 3 days beginning at 32 weeks' gestation. The patient required an insulin dose reduction. The hypoglycemia was considered to be probably related to use of red raspberry leaf tea.
