Silica from food and most supplements is generally well tolerated, but long-term safety at high doses hasn't been well studied. The facts note that inhaled crystalline silicon dioxide (from occupational dust) causes serious lung disease — but oral silica from supplements is a different story and isn't associated with those risks.

Biotin is considered safe and well tolerated even at fairly high doses, since excess is shed in urine; rarely, high-dose biotin has caused mild diarrhea. Hyaluronic acid appears well tolerated when taken by mouth or applied to skin, though long-term safety of oral supplements isn't fully studied.

For pregnancy: silica has insufficient data and is best avoided; biotin is likely safe and appropriate in normal dietary and prenatal amounts. Hyaluronic acid lacks safety data — talk with your doctor before taking it during pregnancy or breastfeeding.

Antithyroid Drugs

Theoretically, long-term bamboo use might increase the effects and adverse effects of antithyroid drugs, possibly leading to hypothyroidism.
Animal research suggests that long-term consumption of bamboo shoot can decrease thyroid peroxidase activity, as well as levels of thyroxine (T4) and triiodothyronine (T3). This effect has not yet been reported in humans.
