Shred Pro has three active ingredients. The first two, Epiandrosterone (also called 3beta-hydroxy-5-androstan-17-one) and 7-keto-DHEA, are hormone-related compounds — they're derivatives related to hormones your body makes naturally.
The third, Brassaiopsis glomerulata, is a plant extract. The product also contains several inactive ingredients: gelatin (the capsule), magnesium stearate (a binder), silicon dioxide, and FD&C Blue #1 (a colorant).
Does it work?
Not established
The evidence for what Shred Pro does isn't established. Both Epiandrosterone and 7-keto-DHEA have been studied for athletic performance, muscle strength, obesity, and sexual function, but the data we have rates all of these as insufficient — meaning we don't have reliable evidence one way or the other.
The same goes for 7-keto-DHEA and depression, PTSD, Raynaud syndrome, and aging skin. For Brassaiopsis glomerulata, we hold no effectiveness data.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Both Epiandrosterone and 7-keto-DHEA are hormone-related supplements with real caution flags. Epiandrosterone has limited safety data and real potential for androgenic side effects (effects related to male hormones).
With 7-keto-DHEA, short-term use appears generally well tolerated in small studies, but long-term safety isn't well established. A case report described decreased hemoglobin and hematocrit levels (fewer red blood cells) in someone taking 7-keto-DHEA 25 mg twice daily for a week, though the clinical significance isn't clear.
In clinical trials, a small number of people reported nausea or vertigo. Pregnancy and breastfeeding are off-limits for both: the safety data advises against Epiandrosterone entirely during pregnancy and lactation, and there isn't enough safety information for 7-keto-DHEA during either, so talk with your doctor or pharmacist for personalized advice if you're pregnant or nursing.
