What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: tart cherry powder. Tart cherry is a concentrated form of the fruit, so you're getting the compounds from the cherry in powder form rather than as whole fruit or juice.
There are no inactive ingredients listed, so you're getting tart cherry and nothing else.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
The evidence for tart cherry is mixed. It's possibly effective for athletic performance — that's the strongest rating we have for it.
For exercise-induced muscle soreness, exercise-induced respiratory infections, cognitive function, ADHD, and fibromyalgia, the evidence isn't established well enough for us to rate it either way. If you're considering this for one of those other uses, talk it over with your doctor to see if it makes sense for you.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Tart cherry is generally well tolerated when you eat it as a whole fruit, but this is a concentrated supplement, and concentrated forms haven't been studied as thoroughly. Most side effects reported are gastrointestinal — abdominal pain, loose stools, and general stomach upset are the main ones.
In one clinical study, about 29% of children who took tart cherry juice concentrate twice daily for two weeks reported belly pain. One case of a possible allergic skin reaction after drinking a tart cherry and apple juice blend has been reported.
Because safety data for concentrated supplement doses is limited, caution is advised. For pregnancy and lactation, tart cherry is rated likely safe, so the available evidence doesn't suggest a safety concern if you're pregnant or nursing.
If you want personalized advice for your situation, check with your doctor or pharmacist.
Meds to double-check
No known interactions
No interactions are documented for the ingredients we could check. That said, if you take medications and want to be certain, use the search tool on this page to look up your specific drugs — your own pharmacist or doctor can also confirm there's nothing to worry about.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with some supporting evidence behind its ingredients' uses. No medication interactions are currently documented, and safety information is well characterized.
Tart cherry powder may be worth trying if you're looking to support athletic performance — that's the use with the strongest evidence. If you're interested in it for muscle soreness, cognitive function, or other purposes, the science isn't settled yet, so ask your doctor if it fits your needs.
The main caution is gastrointestinal upset, especially at higher doses. Run your medications through our checker below, and talk with your pharmacist or doctor before you start, especially if you have a sensitive stomach or a known cherry allergy.
