Every active ingredient lists its own amount on the label.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 1 of its 1 active ingredient.
  • No proprietary blends here — you can verify the dose of every single component.

This product contains 1 active ingredient: Vitamin K2 (as MK-7), a form of vitamin K that your body uses to support bone and blood vessel health. It comes in a soft-gelatin capsule made with organic extra virgin olive oil.

Strong evidence
Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
Strong

Clinical evidence supports at least one of this product's ingredients for its stated purpose.

Why this rating?
  • The label markets this product for: bone and heart health.
  • We looked for evidence on: Cardiovascular disease (CVD), Osteoporosis, Overall mortality, Stroke, Vitamin K-dependent clotting factors deficiency (VKCFD), Warfarin anticoagulation — and 3 related terms.
  • The strongest evidence on file: Vitamin K is rated "Effective" for Warfarin anticoagulation (Natural Medicines).
  • Also on file: Vitamin K is rated "Effective" for Vitamin K-dependent clotting factors deficiency (VKCFD).
  • Also on file: Vitamin K is rated "Possibly Effective" for Osteoporosis.

Vitamin K2 is effective for treating vitamin K deficiency conditions like low levels of vitamin K–dependent clotting factors and hemorrhagic disease (bleeding disease). It's also listed as effective for managing warfarin anticoagulation when medically appropriate — though that requires close medical supervision.

For osteoporosis, the evidence is possibly effective, meaning there's some supporting data but we'd need more research to be certain.

If you take warfarin (Coumadin) or any other blood thinner (anticoagulant), talk to your doctor or pharmacist before using this product — vitamin K2 can weaken the drug's effect. No other medication interactions are documented in our data for this ingredient.

The bottom line

Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with clinical evidence supporting its stated purpose. Major medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.

Vitamin K2 is a solid choice if you want bone support and have no blood-thinning medications — but if you're on warfarin or any anticoagulant, you must talk to your doctor first. This supplement can interfere with how those drugs work.

Anyone starting it should mention it to their pharmacist, even if they're not on blood thinners.

Formula

Vitamin K's most active form

Andrew Lessman's Vitamin K2 MK-7 120 provides the most active and beneficial form of Vitamin K-2, Menaquinone-7 (MK-7). Vitamin K2 MK-7 is now recognized as essential for bone and heart health through its role in regulating calcium metabolism. The “K” in Vitamin K2 MK-7's name stems from the role of Vitamin K-1 in blood clotting, since it was discovered in Germany where “Koagulation” is spelled with a K. Vitamin K2 MK-7's unique importance instead relates to its scientifically established central role in calcium utilization and thus bone, heart and cardiovascular health. Essentially, Vitamin K2 MK-7 promotes the retention of calcium in healthy bone while discouraging its being deposited in other tissues causing undesirable calcification of arteries, heart valves, etc. By discouraging calcification, Vitamin K2 MK-7 promotes flexible, resilient arteries and heart valves, which is a defining characteristic of cardiovascular health. In short, Vitamin K2 MK-7 acts like a “traffic cop” directing calcium to the vital tissues where it is required while keeping it out of those where it is not desired. Since we all must consume calcium daily our healthy bones and flexible arteries require Vitamin K2 MK-7. Sadly, there is no significant source of Vitamin K2 MK-7 in the typical American diet making supplementation the only reliable method of acquiring this essential vitamin.

Vitamin K2 MK-7 120 mcg by ProCaps Laboratories: Common Questions

Does Vitamin K2 MK-7 120 mcg by ProCaps Laboratories interact with any medications?
Yes. Based on its ingredients, Vitamin K2 MK-7 120 mcg has a known interaction with 2 medications, including 2 rated major. Use the checker to see how it interacts with a specific drug.
How can one product interact with so many drugs?
Vitamin K2 MK-7 120 mcg contains a single active ingredient, and that one ingredient can interact with many different medications on its own. We check it against each medication and show the mechanism responsible.
Where does this information come from?
The product label data comes from the NIH Dietary Supplement Label Database (DSLD); the interaction data is built on the Natural Medicines database and reviewed by HelloPharmacist pharmacists.
Can I take this if I'm on warfarin?
Not without your doctor's input. Vitamin K2 can reverse warfarin's blood-thinning effect, which could be dangerous. Contact your doctor or pharmacist before starting — they may need to adjust your warfarin dose or monitor your clotting levels more closely.
What are the side effects of vitamin K2?
Most people tolerate it well. The common ones are mild: nausea, diarrhea, stomach upset, and belly pain. These tend to be light and go away on their own.
Does vitamin K2 really help with osteoporosis?
The evidence is possibly effective — meaning there's some research backing it, but we'd like to see more studies to be sure. If you're interested in it for bone health, talk to your doctor about whether it fits your situation.
Is vitamin K2 safe to take while pregnant or breastfeeding?
The data shows it's likely safe during pregnancy and lactation. That said, if you're pregnant or nursing, run it past your doctor or pharmacist first — they know your full health picture.
Why do I need to ask my doctor before taking a vitamin K2 supplement?
Because even though dietary vitamin K is fine, supplements are more concentrated. Your doctor needs to make sure it won't interfere with your medications or conditions — especially blood thinners — and that the dose is right for you.
