Every active ingredient lists its own amount on the label.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 1 of its 1 active ingredient.
  • No proprietary blends here — you can verify the dose of every single component.

This product contains one active ingredient: vitamin K2 (MK-7 form), at 240 micrograms per softgel. Vitamin K is a fat-soluble vitamin that your body uses to make proteins involved in blood clotting and bone health.

The softgel also contains organic extra virgin olive oil and a soft-gelatin capsule as inactive ingredients.

Strong evidence
Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
Strong

Clinical evidence supports at least one of this product's ingredients for its stated purpose.

Why this rating?
  • The label markets this product for: promotes optimum heart, bone and circulatory health.
  • We looked for evidence on: Cardiovascular disease (CVD), Osteoporosis, Vitamin K-dependent clotting factors deficiency (VKCFD), Hemorrhagic disease, Hypoprothrombinemia, Warfarin anticoagulation — and 3 related terms.
  • The strongest evidence on file: Vitamin K is rated "Effective" for Hemorrhagic disease (Natural Medicines).
  • Also on file: Vitamin K is rated "Effective" for Hypoprothrombinemia, Warfarin anticoagulation, Vitamin K-dependent clotting factors deficiency (VKCFD).
  • Also on file: Vitamin K is rated "Possibly Effective" for Osteoporosis.

Vitamin K2 is effective for treating vitamin K deficiency conditions — specifically hypoprothrombinemia (a blood-clotting disorder), vitamin K-dependent clotting factors deficiency, and hemorrhagic disease. It's also effective for managing warfarin anticoagulation under medical supervision.

For osteoporosis, the evidence is weaker; vitamin K shows possibly effective benefit, but the data isn't as strong as it is for clotting disorders.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 1 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

Taken by mouth, vitamin K2 is generally well tolerated in healthy people at typical food and supplement doses. The most common side effects are mild gastrointestinal ones — nausea, diarrhea, abdominal pain, and stomach upset — though these aren't universal.

The safety notes advise checking with your doctor before taking supplements, even though normal dietary amounts are fine. Vitamin K2 is likely safe in pregnancy and lactation, based on the data we hold.

Why this rating?
  • 1 of the 1 matched ingredient can interact with medications — Vitamin K.
  • The most serious interaction on file is rated Major.

Blood thinners — especially warfarin (Coumadin) — are the big one. Vitamin K can reverse their effects, which is a Major interaction.

If you're on a blood thinner, discuss this supplement with your pharmacist before starting it.

The bottom line

Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with clinical evidence supporting its stated purpose. Major medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.

Vitamin K2 MK-7 is a good choice if you want to support your clotting factors or explore bone health benefits. The catch: if you take warfarin or any other blood thinner, you must talk to your pharmacist or doctor first — vitamin K can interfere with how these drugs work.

For everyone else, it's generally well tolerated.

Formula

Vitamin K's most active form Promotes optimum heart, bone and circulatory health.

Andrew Lessman's Vitamin K2 MK-7 240 provides the most active and beneficial form of Vitamin K-2 Menaquinone-7 (MK-7). Vitamin K2 MK-7 is now recognized as essential for bone and heart health through its role in regulating calcium metabolism. The "K" in Vitamin K2 MK-7's name stems from the role of vitamin K-1 in blood clotting, since it was discovered in Germany where "Koagulation" is spelled with a K. Vitamin K-2 MK-7's unique importance instead relates to its scientifically established central role in calcium utilization and thus bone, heart and cardiovascular health. Essentially, Vitamin K2 MK-7 promotes the retention of calcium in healthy bone while discouraging its being deposited in other tissues causing undesirable calcification of arteries, heart valves, etc. By discouraging calcification, Vitamin K2 MK-7 promotes flexible, resilient arteries and heart valves, which is a defining characteristic of cardiovascular health. In short, K2 MK-7 acts like a "traffic cop" directing calcium to the vital tissues where it is required while keeping it out of those where it is not desired. Since we all must consume calcium daily our healthy bones and flexible arteries require K2 MK-7. Sadly, there is no significant source of Vitamin K2 MK-7 in the typical American diet making supplementation the only reliable method of acquiring this essential vitamin.

Vitamin K2 MK-7 240 mcg by ProCaps Laboratories: Common Questions

Does Vitamin K2 MK-7 240 mcg by ProCaps Laboratories interact with any medications?
Yes. Based on its ingredients, Vitamin K2 MK-7 240 mcg has a known interaction with 2 medications, including 2 rated major. Use the checker to see how it interacts with a specific drug.
How can one product interact with so many drugs?
Vitamin K2 MK-7 240 mcg contains a single active ingredient, and that one ingredient can interact with many different medications on its own. We check it against each medication and show the mechanism responsible.
Where does this information come from?
The product label data comes from the NIH Dietary Supplement Label Database (DSLD); the interaction data is built on the Natural Medicines database and reviewed by HelloPharmacist pharmacists.
Can I take this if I'm on warfarin?
No — not without talking to your doctor or pharmacist first. Vitamin K directly interferes with how warfarin works and can reduce its ability to prevent blood clots. Your provider may need to adjust your warfarin dose or monitor you differently if you want to take a vitamin K2 supplement.
What side effects might I experience?
Most people tolerate vitamin K2 well. If you do have a side effect, it's usually mild and gastrointestinal — nausea, diarrhea, abdominal pain, or stomach upset. These aren't common, but they're the ones we see most often.
Is this safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?
Yes, vitamin K2 is likely safe during pregnancy and lactation based on the data we hold. That said, it's always smart to mention any supplement to your prenatal or postpartum care provider before you start.
What is MK-7, and why does this form matter?
MK-7 is a specific form of vitamin K2 that's been extracted or fermented — it's one of several forms your body can use for clotting and bone health. The facts we have don't specify why MK-7 was chosen for this product, but it's a recognized and active form.
Will this help my osteoporosis?
Vitamin K2 shows possibly effective benefit for osteoporosis, which means the evidence is promising but not yet as strong as it is for blood-clotting disorders. Talk to your doctor about whether it fits your bone health plan.
