Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: Wild Yam Extract. It's a liquid form, which means the extract is already dissolved and ready to dose — no powder to mix.
The only other ingredient listed is the liquid base itself; there are no added fillers or binders.
Does it work?
Leans against
The evidence for wild yam is mixed. For menopausal symptoms, it's rated possibly ineffective — meaning trials haven't shown it works well for hot flashes or other menopause-related complaints.
For gallbladder disease, sexual dysfunction, period pain (dysmenorrhea), and infertility, there isn't enough reliable evidence to say whether it works or doesn't. If you're considering wild yam for any of these purposes, talk with your pharmacist about whether the evidence fits your situation.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Wild yam is generally well tolerated for short-term use in healthy adults, but how safe it is over the long haul isn't well studied. The most common side effects are headache, fever, upset stomach, and vomiting — especially at higher doses.
A rare serious effect (anaphylaxis, a severe allergic reaction) has been reported but is very uncommon. One case report linked a combination product containing wild yam to temporary vision loss, though it's unclear whether wild yam itself was responsible.
There isn't enough safety data to use wild yam during pregnancy or while breastfeeding; the safety data advises against it in both situations.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before you take wild yam, check any estrogens you're on — this includes birth control pills, hormone replacement therapy, and estrogen patches. The extract could theoretically change how these medications work.
Use our interaction checker below with your exact medications to be sure.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with graded evidence leaning against its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Wild yam extract may appeal to you if you're exploring herbal options, but the evidence it works for most common uses is weak or absent. The main caution is if you take any estrogen-based medication — check with us first.
If you're pregnant, breastfeeding, or taking hormones, talk with your pharmacist before starting.
