Witch hazel is possibly effective for hemorrhoids. For atopic dermatitis (eczema), the evidence suggests it is possibly ineffective.

Topically, witch hazel is generally well tolerated. The most common side effect is contact dermatitis — redness or burning on the skin — though this happens in only a small number of people.
This product is not meant to be taken by mouth. If swallowed in high doses, the tannins in witch hazel (the leaf contains 8–10%, the bark up to 12%) could theoretically cause kidney and liver damage, and there's historical concern about regular high-dose consumption and cancer risk, though the evidence is mixed.
Avoid applying to the nipple area. Limited safety data exist for pregnancy and breastfeeding; talk with your doctor before use if you're pregnant or nursing.
