Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
Wobenzym PS contains 3 active ingredients: bromelain (an enzyme from pineapple), trypsin (a protein-digesting enzyme), and rutoside trihydrate, also known as rutin (a compound from plants). The tablets also contain several inactive ingredients — microcrystalline cellulose, calcium phosphate, hydroxypropyl cellulose, vegetable-based enteric coating, vegetable stearate, silica, and natural vanilla flavor — which help form and protect the tablet.
Does it work?
Not established
The evidence on whether these ingredients work for their intended uses is not established in the data we hold. Bromelain has been studied for allergic rhinitis (hay fever), burns, cancer support, nerve damage from chemotherapy, chronic venous insufficiency (poor circulation in the legs), and diabetes — but the data is insufficient to rate it.
Trypsin's evidence for sprains, arthritis, radiation skin damage, wound healing, exercise-induced muscle soreness, and multiple sclerosis is also insufficient. Rutin has been studied for aging skin, autism spectrum disorder, inflammatory bowel disease, diabetes, respiratory infections, and hemorrhoids, but again the evidence is insufficient to establish its effectiveness.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Bromelain is generally well tolerated in short-term use, but long-term safety data are limited. The most common side effects are gastrointestinal — diarrhea, flatulence, stomach upset, and headache.
Allergic reactions are possible; if inhaled, it may trigger asthma or throat and eye irritation. Trypsin is generally tolerated in studied products, though when taken with other enzymes it may cause mild to moderate nausea, heartburn, or stomach pain.
Rutin is generally well tolerated short-term, and the most common side effects are headache, flushing, and rashes. During pregnancy, bromelain and trypsin should be avoided because safety data are insufficient.
Rutin has limited safety data for supplement doses in pregnancy, so it's best avoided unless your doctor advises otherwise. For breastfeeding, safety data are not established for all three ingredients, so talk with your doctor or pharmacist before using this product if you're nursing.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Check with your doctor or pharmacist before taking Wobenzym PS if you're on blood thinners (like warfarin) or antiplatelet drugs (like aspirin or clopidogrel) — bromelain may increase bleeding risk. Also check if you take diabetes medications, since rutin may lower blood sugar.
If you're on tetracycline antibiotics, bromelain may theoretically raise their levels, though human evidence is limited.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no established evidence rating for its marketed use. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Wobenzym PS is an enzyme combination product with three active ingredients that have limited evidence of effectiveness. The main concern is bromelain, which may increase bleeding risk if you take blood thinners or antiplatelet drugs, and rutin may lower blood sugar if you're on diabetes medication.
If you're pregnant, breastfeeding, or take any prescription medications — especially blood thinners or diabetes drugs — talk it over with your doctor or pharmacist before starting.

Wobenzyme PS Professional Strength by Wobenzym PS Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Wobenzym PS Professional Strength contains three active ingredients — bromelain, trypsin, and rutoside trihydrate (rutin) — and two of them have documented interactions with medications.
The most serious concern is bromelain with blood thinners (anticoagulants) and antiplatelet drugs like aspirin: bromelain may have blood-thinning effects itself, and combining it with these medications could raise your bleeding risk. There's also a case report of minor bruising in someone taking bromelain with naproxen, a pain reliever.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Rutoside trihydrate may interact with diabetes medications (like insulin or oral diabetes drugs). Animal research suggests it can lower blood sugar, so taking it alongside diabetes drugs could theoretically increase the risk of low blood sugar (hypoglycemia).
Bromelain may also theoretically increase the levels of tetracycline antibiotics in your body, though one human study found no significant effect at typical doses.
Trypsin has no interactions documented in our data. Altogether, these interactions span 227 individual medications.

Bromelain
Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs
Bromelain may have antiplatelet effects and may increase the risk of bleeding if used with anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs.
There is one case report of a patient experiencing minor bruising while taking bromelain with naproxen. Bromelain is thought to have antiplatelet activity. Whether this interaction is of concern with topical bromelain is unclear. Interference with coagulation of burn wounds has been reported in a patient receiving bromelain-based enzymatic debridement. However, observational research has found that topical bromelain debridement is not associated with increases or decreases in laboratory markers of coagulation when compared with surgical debridement.
Tetracycline Antibiotics
Theoretically, bromelain might increase levels of tetracycline antibiotics.
Laboratory research suggests that bromelain might increase the absorption of tetracycline antibiotics. However, a study in healthy adults reported no difference in tetracycline plasma levels when a 500 mg dose was taken with or without bromelain 80 mg.
Rutoside Trihydrate
Antidiabetes Drugs
Theoretically, taking rutin with antidiabetes drugs might increase the risk of hypoglycemia.
Animal research suggests that rutin has hypoglycemic effects.
