Every active ingredient lists its own amount on the label.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 1 of its 1 active ingredient.
  • No proprietary blends here — you can verify the dose of every single component.

This product contains one active ingredient: certified organic yarrow extract in a liquid form, suspended in vegetable palm glycerin and alcohol. Yarrow is a flowering plant traditionally used in herbal medicine.

The extract concentrates its active compounds, which include substances called sesquiterpene lactones that are responsible for both its potential benefits and its side effects — particularly skin reactions when applied topically or handled.

Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
Not assessable

This is a single-ingredient Yarrow product and its label doesn't state a use — see Yarrow's own graded uses on its monograph.

Why this rating?
  • We looked at the product name, claims, and label statements and couldn't find a stated purpose to grade.

The evidence for yarrow isn't yet established. Our data show insufficient reliable evidence to rate it for tonsillitis, wound healing, atopic dermatitis (eczema), dysmenorrhea (painful periods), or vaginal candidiasis (yeast infection) — all conditions it's traditionally been used for.

That doesn't mean it doesn't work; it means the clinical trials don't yet support a confident claim either way.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 1 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

Yarrow by mouth and used vaginally is generally well tolerated in the short term, though human safety data are limited. The main concern is allergic or contact dermatitis, especially when applied to skin — a small number of people have reported rash, hives, or even airborne contact reactions from handling the plant.

One trial participant reported worsening facial acne. Don't use yarrow in pregnancy; traditional use has been avoided because of concerns it may affect the uterus.

There isn't enough safety information to use it while breastfeeding — talk with your pharmacist or doctor for personalized advice.

Moderate identified

The most serious documented interaction for these ingredients is Moderate. Check your medications for a personalized result.

Why this rating?
  • 1 of the 1 matched ingredient can interact with medications — Yarrow.
  • The most serious interaction on file is rated Moderate.
  • Some involve high-stakes drug classes: lithium.
  • For scale: 1 individual medications appear in the full list. A big number alone doesn't make a product dangerous — what matters is whether YOUR medication is on it, so run yours through the interaction checker on this page.

If you take lithium, check with your pharmacist before using this product — the Moderate interaction could raise lithium levels and side effects. No other medication interactions are documented in our data for the ingredient we could check.

The bottom line

Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no assessable stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.

Yarrow extract may appeal to people exploring traditional herbal remedies, but the evidence for its effectiveness isn't established yet. If you take lithium, you'll want to check with your pharmacist before starting — your dose might need adjustment.

Anyone with a history of allergies or sensitive skin should be cautious, especially with topical use.

Lithium

Theoretically, taking yarrow with lithium might increase the levels and adverse effects of lithium.
Animal research shows that yarrow has diuretic activity. Theoretically, due to these potential diuretic effects, yarrow might reduce excretion and increase levels of lithium. The dose of lithium might need to be decreased.

Yarrow by Hawaii Pharm: Common Questions

Does Yarrow by Hawaii Pharm interact with any medications?
Yes. Based on its ingredients, Yarrow has a known interaction with 1 medication. Use the checker to see how it interacts with a specific drug.
How can one product interact with so many drugs?
Yarrow contains a single active ingredient, and that one ingredient can interact with many different medications on its own. We check it against each medication and show the mechanism responsible.
Where does this information come from?
The product label data comes from the NIH Dietary Supplement Label Database (DSLD); the interaction data is built on the Natural Medicines database and reviewed by HelloPharmacist pharmacists.
Can I use this yarrow product if I'm pregnant or breastfeeding?
No — don't use it in pregnancy. The safety data advise against it because yarrow may affect the uterus. There also isn't enough safety information to use while breastfeeding, so talk with your doctor or pharmacist for personalized guidance.
What does yarrow extract actually do?
That's not yet clear from the clinical evidence we have. Yarrow is used traditionally for tonsillitis, wound healing, eczema, painful periods, and yeast infections, but we don't have reliable studies to back up those uses. The evidence is insufficient to rate it for any of these.
Is yarrow safe to use long-term?
The data we hold are mostly for short-term use, and long-term safety in humans hasn't been well studied. If you're thinking of using it regularly, that's a good conversation to have with your pharmacist.
Can yarrow cause skin reactions?
Yes — topical use is the biggest concern. Yarrow can trigger allergic dermatitis, rashes, hives, and even sensitivity to sunlight in some people. When taken by mouth or used vaginally, it's generally well tolerated, though allergic reactions are still possible.
What's in this liquid besides the yarrow extract?
The extract is suspended in vegetable palm glycerin and alcohol — these are the inactive ingredients that make it a liquid.
