Titanium dioxide functions as an opacifying agent and is typically used in makeup formulations to provide coverage and a matte finish to the skin. The product is an OTC monograph drug, meaning it is marketed under the FDA's established rules for this category of cosmetic-drug products rather than through individual product approval.
