The concomitant use of diazoxide with diuretics may potentiate the hyperglycemic and hyperuricemic effects of diazoxide. Both diazoxide and diuretics may produce hyperglycemia and hyperuricemia. Monitor for signs and symptoms of hyperglycemia and hyperuricemia when diazoxide is used concomitantly with thiazides or other diuretics. Dosage adjustment of diazoxide or diuretics may be needed when diazoxide is concomitantly used with diuretics1. The use of oral diazoxide and thiazide diuretics has been reported to blunt insulin secretion and may result in hyperglycemia 34. Thiazide diuretics may also potentiate the hyperuricemic and hypotensive effects of diazoxide 23.

a) Eight male volunteers were studied to determine the effects of concurrent diazoxide and thiazide therapy. Diazoxide 400 to 645 mg daily was administered in three divided doses in combination with trichlormethiazide 4 mg twice daily for four to seven days. Results showed a decrease in insulin secretion which manifested as symptomatic hyperglycemia by the third day of coadministration 3. Thiazide diuretics may also potentiate the hyperuricemic and hypotensive effects of diazoxide 23.
