The concomitant use of axitinib (a CYP3A4/5 substrate) with a strong CYP3A4/5 inducer should be avoided due to a risk of decreased axitinib plasma exposure. Coadministration of axitinib with rifampin 600 mg/day for 9 days, a strong CYP3A4/5 inducer, significantly reduced axitinib Cmax and AUC in healthy subjects. When possible, an alternate concomitant medication with little or no CYP3A4/5 induction potential should be substituted during axitinib therapy1.
