a) Concomitant lithium and mazindol therapy was reported to produce lithium toxicity in a 58-year-old woman 2. Prior to mazindol administration, the patient's lithium level was consistently in the therapeutic range. Following oral mazindol therapy (2 mg daily for three days) the patient became apathetic, sluggish, and progressively ataxic. Following the ninth day of treatment, the patient became stuporous and developed widespread muscle fasciculations and limb rigidity with dehydration. EKG revealed ST-segment and T-wave abnormalities corresponding to a lithium level of 3.2 mmol/L. The patient was treated with alkaline diuresis and intravenous fluids, resulting in recovery without sequelae in seven days.
