American ginseng seems to stimulate immune function. Theoretically, American ginseng might decrease the effectiveness of immunosuppressant drugs.

Here's the thinking behind this pairing. Riabni (rituximab-arrx) is a biologic that works by calming or knocking down part of your immune system, specifically your B-cells. American ginseng, on the other hand, is believed to do the opposite and gently rev up immune activity. So in theory, the two could pull in different directions, and the ginseng might blunt some of the benefit you're getting from your rituximab treatment.

I want to be honest with you though: this concern is theoretical, based on how ginseng behaves in lab and animal studies, not on real cases in people taking rituximab. We don't have solid proof it actually causes problems. Still, since rituximab is serious therapy for serious conditions, I'd skip the ginseng supplement until you check with your oncologist, rheumatologist, or pharmacist first.
