Amphetamine falls under MONOAMINE OXIDASE INHIBITORS (MAOIs) — the group American Ginseng interacts with.

Theoretically, American ginseng can interfere with MAOI therapy.
There is one case report of insomnia, headache, and tremors when an unspecified ginseng product was used with phenelzine (Nardil), an MAOI. There is also one case report of hypomania when an unspecified ginseng product was used with phenelzine. Theoretically, American ginseng may interfere with MAOI therapy.

Here's the honest picture: the interaction we have on file is between American ginseng and a different class of stimulant-related drugs called MAOIs (like phenelzine), not amphetamine itself. So I want to be straight with you, the evidence here is thin and mostly theoretical, built on a couple of old case reports where people taking an MAOI plus ginseng noticed things like insomnia, headaches, tremors, and one episode of feeling overly wired (hypomania).

Amphetamine is a stimulant, and ginseng is sometimes promoted for energy, so the worry is that stacking them could add up to too much stimulation, think jitteriness, a racing heart, trouble sleeping, or feeling on edge. This isn't well proven, and food amounts wouldn't be the concern, concentrated supplements would. Before adding ginseng, please run it by your pharmacist or doctor first.

What Is Amphetamine Used For?

Brand names: Dyanavel XR, Adensys XR-ODT, Mydayis, Adzenys ER

Amphetamine treats Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) in patients 6 years and older. Adzenys XR-ODT, Dyanavel XR, and the amphetamine extended-release orally disintegrating tablet formulations are specifically approved for ADHD in this age group.

Amphetamine Sulfate tablets and Evekeo (amphetamine sulfate tablets) are also approved for narcolepsy (a sleep disorder causing uncontrollable daytime sleepiness) and as a short-term aid in a calorie-restricted weight-loss program for exogenous obesity (weight gain from external factors like overeating) in patients who have not responded to other approaches.
