Amphetamine falls under MONOAMINE OXIDASE INHIBITORS (MAOIs) — the group Cowhage interacts with.

Theoretically, concomitant use of cowhage and non-selective MAOIs might increase the risk of hypertensive crisis.
Cowhage contains levodopa. Use of levodopa with non-selective MAOIs might cause hypertensive crisis. However, this interaction has not been reported with MAO-B selective inhibitors such as selegiline.

Here's the thing to know: the interaction on file pairs cowhage with monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs), and the worry is a sudden, dangerous spike in blood pressure called a hypertensive crisis. Amphetamine itself isn't an MAOI, but it is a stimulant that raises dopamine and norepinephrine. Cowhage adds a natural dose of L-dopa, which the body turns into dopamine. So stacking the two could push those messengers even higher.

In plain terms, combining them may amplify amphetamine's effects: racing heart, jitteriness, anxiety, trouble sleeping, and especially elevated blood pressure. This concern is theoretical and based on how these compounds work, not on solid human reports, so I don't want to alarm you. Still, please check with your doctor or pharmacist before mixing them.

What Is Amphetamine Used For?

Brand names: Dyanavel XR, Adensys XR-ODT, Mydayis, Adzenys ER

Amphetamine treats Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) in patients 6 years and older. Adzenys XR-ODT, Dyanavel XR, and the amphetamine extended-release orally disintegrating tablet formulations are specifically approved for ADHD in this age group.

Amphetamine Sulfate tablets and Evekeo (amphetamine sulfate tablets) are also approved for narcolepsy (a sleep disorder causing uncontrollable daytime sleepiness) and as a short-term aid in a calorie-restricted weight-loss program for exogenous obesity (weight gain from external factors like overeating) in patients who have not responded to other approaches.
