Trimipramine falls under TRICYCLIC ANTIDEPRESSANTS (TCAs) — the group Cowhage interacts with.

Theoretically, use of TCAs might reduce the levels and clinical effects of cowhage.
Cowhage contains levodopa. Use of TCAs might reduce the absorption of levodopa. Some case reports describe patients that developed hypertension and dyskinesia when taking both levodopa and TCAs.

Here's the situation if you're thinking about pairing cowhage with trimipramine. Cowhage is basically a natural source of L-dopa, the same active ingredient found in some Parkinson's medications. The concern works two ways: trimipramine might slow down how much of that L-dopa your body actually absorbs, so the cowhage may not do what you're hoping. And on the flip side, there are older case reports of people on both L-dopa and a tricyclic antidepressant who ran into high blood pressure or unwanted muscle movements (dyskinesia).

I'll be straight with you: this is mostly theoretical, based on how these drugs behave rather than strong studies. Still, because cowhage can pack a real L-dopa punch, please loop in your doctor or pharmacist before combining them rather than guessing.

What Is Trimipramine Used For?

Brand names: Surmontil, Trimip, Rhotrimine, Tripramine, Trimp

Trimipramine capsules are indicated for the relief of symptoms of depression. Endogenous depression — depression that arises from within, rather than from an obvious outside cause — is more likely to respond to treatment than other types.

In clinical studies, trimipramine worked as well as imipramine in hospitalized patients with depression, and was comparable to amitriptyline in less severely depressed outpatients.
