Here's the basic idea with cowhage and Abilify (aripiprazole). Aripiprazole works in part by calming down certain dopamine signals in the brain. Cowhage seeds, on the other hand, are a natural source of L-dopa, which the body turns into dopamine. So in theory, adding more dopamine raw material could push against what aripiprazole is trying to do.

If that tug-of-war happened, you might notice your aripiprazole working a little less well, meaning symptoms it controls (like mood swings, agitation, or disordered thinking) could creep back. I'll be honest though: this concern is theoretical, based on how the two work, not on solid human studies. Still, it's worth a quick chat with your doctor or pharmacist before combining them rather than guessing on your own.

Aripiprazole treats several mental health conditions. It is approved for schizophrenia, acute manic and mixed episodes of Bipolar I Disorder, and as an add-on to antidepressants for Major Depressive Disorder.
