Here's the gist: cowhage (Mucuna pruriens) may have a mild blood-sugar-lowering effect of its own, at least in animal studies. Since alogliptin is already working to bring your blood sugar down, stacking the two together could, in theory, push your levels a little lower than expected. That might show up as shakiness, sweating, dizziness, hunger, or feeling foggy, the usual signs of low blood sugar.

I want to be honest about the evidence here: this is theoretical, based only on lab and animal research, not real-world reports in people. So it's not a reason to panic. If you do decide to use cowhage, just keep a closer eye on your blood sugar readings and loop in your doctor or pharmacist first.

Alogliptin tablets — sold under the brand names Alogliptin and Nesina — are used along with diet and exercise to improve blood sugar control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus.

Alogliptin is not used for type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis, as it would not be effective in those situations.
