Trimipramine falls under QT INTERVAL-PROLONGING DRUGS — the group Ephedra interacts with.

Theoretically, ephedra might have an additive effect with drugs that prolong the QT interval.
Even in healthy volunteers, EKG changes including prolonged QT interval and premature atrial contractions have been reported with ingestion of recommended doses of ephedra. Ephedra may have an additive effect with drugs that prolong the QT interval. This may increase the risk of ventricular arrhythmias.

Here's the concern with pairing these two. Trimipramine, like other tricyclic antidepressants, can stretch out the heart's electrical reset time (what we call the QT interval). Ephedra is a strong stimulant that has been shown to cause its own EKG changes, including a longer QT and extra heartbeats, even at normal doses in healthy people. Put them together and those effects can stack up.

When the QT gets too long, it raises the risk of a dangerous, fast heart rhythm. You might notice a racing or pounding heart, dizziness, lightheadedness, or in rare cases fainting. Ephedra is also banned in U.S. supplements for safety reasons, so I'd steer clear of it entirely. Please talk with your pharmacist or doctor before combining anything like this.

What Is Trimipramine Used For?

Brand names: Surmontil, Trimip, Rhotrimine, Tripramine, Trimp

Trimipramine capsules are indicated for the relief of symptoms of depression. Endogenous depression — depression that arises from within, rather than from an obvious outside cause — is more likely to respond to treatment than other types.

In clinical studies, trimipramine worked as well as imipramine in hospitalized patients with depression, and was comparable to amitriptyline in less severely depressed outpatients.
