Quetiapine falls under QT INTERVAL-PROLONGING DRUGS — the group Ephedra interacts with.

Theoretically, ephedra might have an additive effect with drugs that prolong the QT interval.
Even in healthy volunteers, EKG changes including prolonged QT interval and premature atrial contractions have been reported with ingestion of recommended doses of ephedra. Ephedra may have an additive effect with drugs that prolong the QT interval. This may increase the risk of ventricular arrhythmias.

Here's the concern with pairing these two. Quetiapine can stretch out part of your heart's electrical cycle (called the QT interval). Ephedra, thanks to its stimulant compounds like ephedrine, can do something similar and also revs up your heart and blood pressure. Put them together and those effects can stack, which raises the risk of a dangerous irregular heartbeat. This isn't about quetiapine being broken down differently, it's two things tugging on your heart rhythm at the same time.

To be fair, the heart-rhythm part is largely theoretical and based on limited data, but ephedra itself is banned from U.S. supplements for good safety reasons. I wouldn't combine them. Please check with your pharmacist or doctor before using any ephedra product, and ask about safer options.

About Quetiapine

What Is Quetiapine Used For?

Brand names: Seroquel, Dopaquel

Quetiapine treats schizophrenia and bipolar disorder in adults and certain age groups of children and adolescents. For bipolar disorder, it is approved for manic episodes (both as a stand-alone treatment and alongside lithium or divalproex) and for depressive episodes.

The extended-release form of quetiapine is also approved as add-on therapy for major depressive disorder (MDD) in adults who are already taking an antidepressant. The regular tablet form is not approved for this use.
