Here's the concern when ephedra and ofloxacin are taken together: both can be tough on the liver. Ofloxacin, like other fluoroquinolone antibiotics, occasionally causes liver irritation, and ephedra supplements have been tied to a number of real liver injury cases. Stacking two things that can stress the same organ may add up. To be clear, this is a theoretical concern based on how each one behaves, not a well-documented combo, so I don't want to alarm you.

Honestly, the bigger issue is that ephedra is banned in U.S. supplements because of its risks to the heart and blood pressure. I'd steer clear of it entirely. If you notice yellowing skin or eyes, dark urine, belly pain, or unusual tiredness while on ofloxacin, call your doctor or pharmacist right away.

Because it has been linked to serious harms including high blood pressure, stroke, and death, it is banned for use in dietary supplements in the U.S. and many other countries. About Ofloxacin

What Is Ofloxacin Used For?

Brand names: Oflox, Floxin, Floxin Injection, Floxin Otic

Ofloxacin is used in several different forms, each approved for specific infections. The otic (ear) solution treats outer ear infections (otitis externa) in patients 6 months and older, chronic middle ear infections with a ruptured eardrum (chronic suppurative otitis media) in patients 12 and older, and acute middle ear infections in children 1 year and older who have ear tubes. The ophthalmic (eye) solution — including the brand Ocuflox — treats bacterial conjunctivitis (pink eye) and bacterial corneal ulcers.

Ofloxacin oral tablets treat adults with mild to moderate bacterial infections including community-acquired pneumonia, skin and skin structure infections, gonorrhea, chlamydial infections of the urethra or cervix, mixed urethral/cervical infections, and acute pelvic inflammatory disease. The oral tablet is also used for acute bacterial exacerbations of chronic bronchitis and uncomplicated cystitis, but only when no other treatment options are available, due to serious risk concerns with this drug class.
