Insulin Glargine falls under ANTIDIABETES DRUGS — the group Ephedra interacts with.

Theoretically, taking ephedra with antidiabetes drugs might interfere with blood glucose control.
One study in animals shows that some components of ephedra may lower blood glucose levels. However, most human research suggests that ephedra and ephedrine, a component of ephedra, can raise blood glucose levels and might decrease the effectiveness of drug therapy. Monitor blood glucose concentrations closely.

Here's the thing to know if you use insulin glargine (Basaglar, Semglee, Lusduna) for your diabetes. Ephedra contains stimulants like ephedrine that tend to push blood sugar up. That can work against your insulin and make it harder to keep your glucose in a good range, so you might see higher readings than usual even though your dose hasn't changed.

Insulin glargine isn't a prodrug, so this isn't about how your body breaks it down. It's simply two things tugging your blood sugar in opposite directions. The evidence here is fairly limited and a bit mixed, and ephedra is actually banned in U.S. supplements for safety reasons. Please don't adjust your insulin on your own. Talk with your pharmacist or doctor, and watch your glucose closely if ephedra is in the picture.

What Is Insulin Glargine (rDNA origin) Injection Used For?

Brand names: Basaglar, Lusduna, Semglee

Insulin glargine is used to improve glycemic control (blood sugar management) in adults and pediatric patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus, and in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus. It is a long-acting basal insulin, meaning it works gradually over the course of the day to keep blood sugar steady.

Insulin glargine is not recommended for treating diabetic ketoacidosis (a serious complication where the blood becomes dangerously acidic).
