Drug & supplement interaction

Coral + Levonorgestrel

Levonorgestrel brand names: Plan B, Mirena, Levonelle One Step, Levonelle 1500, Norgeston, and others.

No Known Interaction
The bottom line No known interaction

We found no known interaction between Coral and Levonorgestrel in our sources. Absence of a documented interaction is not the same as proven safety, and does not guarantee one does not exist. Do not start, stop, or change a medication or supplement based on this page; confirm with your pharmacist or doctor first. Additionally, although there is no interaction, the two are separately associated with some of the same side effects, which would make a new symptom harder to attribute to one or the other.

Coral and Levonorgestrel

We checked these two against our interaction database. Here is what we found.

No Known Interaction Found

We did not find a documented interaction between Levonorgestrel and Coral in our sources. This does not guarantee that the combination is completely free of risk — there is often limited research on supplements and herbal products, especially around drug interactions.

Worth understanding: our licensed dataset holds no drug-interaction record for Coral at all — not against Levonorgestrel, and not against any other medication we track. This verdict therefore rests on the absence of any recorded data, not on research that looked at this combination and found nothing. We cannot rule an interaction out.

If you decide to take both, the practical routine is simple: add one new thing at a time and note the date you started it. If the combination is going to disagree with you, it usually shows in the first days to a couple of weeks — and a start date turns “I’ve been feeling off” into something a pharmacist can actually work with. Do not stop a prescribed medicine on your own.

Always talk with your pharmacist or doctor before making changes to your medications or supplements, particularly if you take several medications or have an ongoing health condition.

Coral safety at a glance

Coral overall Use caution It is largely a calcium source, but quality and contamination concerns and overstated claims warrant caution.
Pregnancy Use caution Use only under medical guidance because of contamination and dosing concerns; prefer tested prenatal calcium.
Breastfeeding Use caution Safety is not well studied; choose a tested calcium product and ask your doctor.

Safety guidance is general; always confirm with your pharmacist or doctor for your situation.

No Interaction Found — But Data Suggests Coral and Levonorgestrel May Share a Side Effect

This is not an interaction. Neither one changes how your body handles the other, and nothing here says they react together. What our sources do show is that each has separately been linked to the effects below — so taking both can make those effects more likely to turn up, and harder to pin on one or the other if they do. One of them is worth acting on rather than waiting out — marked below.

  • A higher chance of infection Worth acting on Additional detail

    Coral

“Surgically, coral can cause infections. However, it doesn't carry the risk of transmitting infections such as HIV, hepatitis C, and Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease. The local infection rate was 4% for coral grafts as compared to the bone allograph infection rate of 20%.”

Reported for Coral but not commonly for Levonorgestrel: liver problems.

Effects for Levonorgestrel come from the ADVERSE REACTIONS section of its FDA label; effects for Coral come from the Natural Medicines adverse-effect record, quoted above. Where a percentage is shown, it is the share of 206,325 voluntary FDA FAERS reports for Levonorgestrel that mention that effect — a reporting proportion, not an incidence rate and not evidence the drug caused it. Wording is matched across sources by our own clinical vocabulary, so treat this as a prompt to pay attention, not a diagnosis.

About Coral

What is Coral?

  • Calcium and mineral supplementation
  • Bone health support
  • Antacid / acid reduction
  • General 'alkalizing' wellness claims
  • Trace mineral source

Coral calcium is a calcium supplement made from coral skeletons (often fossilized) that also contains small amounts of other minerals. It is essentially a form of calcium carbonate, and there is no good evidence it offers special health benefits beyond ordinary, less costly calcium supplements. Talk to your pharmacist before using it, especially because of concerns about purity, lead contamination, and exaggerated marketing claims.

An interaction check asks whether these two react with each other — it does not ask whether Coral is a good idea for someone in your situation. Here is what our Coral record says about it on its own.

Coral: dosing

There is no special established dose for coral calcium beyond general calcium recommendations. The right amount of calcium depends on your age, sex, diet, and health, and total intake from food plus supplements should usually stay within recommended limits to avoid excess.Follow the product label and, ideally, look for products tested for heavy metals.
