Drug & supplement interaction

Hydroxymethylbutyrate (hmb) + Belzutifan

Belzutifan brand name: Welireg.

No Known Interaction
The bottom line No known interaction

We found no known interaction between Hydroxymethylbutyrate (hmb) and Belzutifan in our sources. Absence of a documented interaction is not the same as proven safety, and does not guarantee one does not exist. Do not start, stop, or change a medication or supplement based on this page; confirm with your pharmacist or doctor first. Additionally, although there is no interaction, the two are separately associated with some of the same side effects, which would make a new symptom harder to attribute to one or the other.

Hydroxymethylbutyrate (hmb) and Belzutifan

We checked these two against our interaction database. Here is what we found.

No Known Interaction Found

We did not find a documented interaction between Belzutifan and Hydroxymethylbutyrate (hmb) in our sources. This does not guarantee that the combination is completely free of risk — there is often limited research on supplements and herbal products, especially around drug interactions.

Worth understanding: our licensed dataset holds no drug-interaction record for Hydroxymethylbutyrate (hmb) at all — not against Belzutifan, and not against any other medication we track. This verdict therefore rests on the absence of any recorded data, not on research that looked at this combination and found nothing. We cannot rule an interaction out.

If you decide to take both, the practical routine is simple: add one new thing at a time and note the date you started it. If the combination is going to disagree with you, it usually shows in the first days to a couple of weeks — and a start date turns “I’ve been feeling off” into something a pharmacist can actually work with. Do not stop a prescribed medicine on your own.

Always talk with your pharmacist or doctor before making changes to your medications or supplements, particularly if you take several medications or have an ongoing health condition.

No Interaction Found — But Data Suggests Hydroxymethylbutyrate (hmb) and Belzutifan May Share Several of the Same Side Effects

This is not an interaction. Neither one changes how your body handles the other, and nothing here says they react together. What our sources do show is that each has separately been linked to the effects below — so taking both can make those effects more likely to turn up, and harder to pin on one or the other if they do. One of them is worth acting on rather than waiting out — marked below.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Belzutifan page

“A drug like belzutifan (Welireg), taken long term to keep kidney and other tumors in check, only works if a steady amount reaches the blood, so I would be genuinely careful before adding supplements here. Most of the interactions on file shift how the liver clears the drug, through the CYP2C19 enzyme or the glucuronidation pathway, nud…”

About Hydroxymethylbutyrate (hmb)

What is Hydroxymethylbutyrate (hmb)?

  • Building or preserving muscle mass
  • Improving strength with resistance training
  • Reducing muscle breakdown
  • Supporting recovery after exercise
  • Preventing muscle loss in older adults or illness

HMB is a compound made in the body from the amino acid leucine and is sold as a supplement mainly to support muscle. The best evidence suggests it may help slow muscle loss in certain situations, such as during illness, bed rest, or aging, but results in healthy athletes are mixed. It appears generally well tolerated for most adults, but you should check with your pharmacist or doctor before starting it.

Not applicable (HMB is a metabolite of the amino acid leucine) · Capsules, tablets, powder, drink mixes; available as calcium-HMB (CaHMB) and free-acid HMB

An interaction check asks whether these two react with each other — it does not ask whether Hydroxymethylbutyrate (hmb) is a good idea for someone in your situation. Here is what our Hydroxymethylbutyrate (hmb) record says about it on its own.

Hydroxymethylbutyrate (hmb): dosing

There is no single official dose of HMB, and the best amount depends on the goal and the person. Most research has used HMB taken in divided doses across the day, often alongside resistance training or protein intake. The two common forms are calcium-HMB and free-acid HMB, which may be absorbed differently.

About Belzutifan

What Is Belzutifan Used For?

Brand name: Welireg

Welireg treats several serious conditions. In adults with von Hippel-Lindau (VHL) disease, it targets associated kidney cancer (renal cell carcinoma), brain or spinal tumors (CNS hemangioblastomas), and pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors that don't need immediate surgery. It is also used in adults with clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC) — either after surgery to lower the risk of the cancer coming back (used with pembrolizumab or pembrolizumab and berahyaluronidase alfa-pmph), or as a single agent for advanced ccRCC that has already been treated with two other types of cancer drugs.

Welireg also treats pheochromocytoma or paraganglioma (PPGL) — rare tumors of the adrenal gland or nearby nerve tissue — in adults and in children 12 years and older when the tumor cannot be removed by surgery or has spread.
