Drug & supplement interaction

Idebenone + Digoxin

Digoxin brand names: Lanoxicaps, Lanoxin, Digitek.

No Known Interaction
The bottom line No known interaction

We found no known interaction between Idebenone and Digoxin in our sources. Absence of a documented interaction is not the same as proven safety, and does not guarantee one does not exist. Do not start, stop, or change a medication or supplement based on this page; confirm with your pharmacist or doctor first. Additionally, although there is no interaction, the two are separately associated with some of the same side effects, which would make a new symptom harder to attribute to one or the other.

Idebenone and Digoxin

We checked these two against our interaction database. Here is what we found.

No Known Interaction Found

We did not find a documented interaction between Digoxin and Idebenone in our sources. This does not guarantee that the combination is completely free of risk — there is often limited research on supplements and herbal products, especially around drug interactions.

Worth understanding: our licensed dataset holds no drug-interaction record for Idebenone at all — not against Digoxin, and not against any other medication we track. This verdict therefore rests on the absence of any recorded data, not on research that looked at this combination and found nothing. We cannot rule an interaction out.

If you decide to take both, the practical routine is simple: add one new thing at a time and note the date you started it. If the combination is going to disagree with you, it usually shows in the first days to a couple of weeks — and a start date turns “I’ve been feeling off” into something a pharmacist can actually work with. Do not stop a prescribed medicine on your own.

Always talk with your pharmacist or doctor before making changes to your medications or supplements, particularly if you take several medications or have an ongoing health condition.

Idebenone safety at a glance

Idebenone overall Use caution Generally tolerated in studies but long-term supplement safety is not well established.
Pregnancy Avoid There is not enough safety information, so avoid use during pregnancy.
Breastfeeding Avoid There is not enough safety information, so avoid use while breastfeeding.

Safety guidance is general; always confirm with your pharmacist or doctor for your situation.

No Interaction Found — But Data Suggests Idebenone and Digoxin May Share Several of the Same Side Effects

This is not an interaction. Neither one changes how your body handles the other, and nothing here says they react together. What our sources do show is that each has separately been linked to the effects below — so taking both can make those effects more likely to turn up, and harder to pin on one or the other if they do.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Digoxin page

“Digoxin is a heart medicine with a narrow therapeutic index, meaning the gap between a helpful blood level and a harmful one is small, and few drugs give me more pause when supplements enter the picture. The most serious entries here are herbs that themselves contain digoxin-like cardiac glycosides, foxglove and lily-of-the-valley amon…”

About Idebenone

What is Idebenone?

  • Antioxidant support
  • Brain and memory health
  • Mitochondrial disorders
  • Anti-aging skin care
  • General energy support

Idebenone is a synthetic, lab-made antioxidant related to coenzyme Q10. It has been studied mostly as a prescription drug for certain rare mitochondrial and neurological conditions, and is also used in some skin-care products, but evidence for over-the-counter supplement use is limited. Talk with your pharmacist or doctor before using it.

An interaction check asks whether these two react with each other — it does not ask whether Idebenone is a good idea for someone in your situation. Here is what our Idebenone record says about it on its own.

Idebenone: dosing

There is no standard supplement dose of idebenone that experts agree on. Doses used in medical studies for specific diseases were set by researchers and differ from what is found in over-the-counter products. If you choose to use an idebenone supplement, follow the directions on the product label and do not exceed the recommended amount.

About Digoxin

What Is Digoxin Used For?

Brand names: Lanoxicaps, Lanoxin, Digitek

Digoxin treats mild to moderate heart failure in adults. It improves heart failure symptoms and exercise capacity, and it reduces heart failure-related hospitalizations and emergency care. It does not change survival.

It also helps control the resting heart rate in adults with chronic atrial fibrillation (an irregular heartbeat). In children with heart failure, the tablet, oral solution and most injection products are used to increase the heart’s pumping strength (myocardial contractility). Some older injection labels list only the adult uses. Digoxin Oral Solution should not be used for multifocal atrial tachycardia.
