Here's the gist: Indian snakeroot contains reserpine, which has a built-in sedating, calming effect. Felbamate works by quieting down overactive electrical signals in the brain, and like many seizure medicines it can leave you feeling drowsy or tired on its own. Stack the two together and those sleepy effects can add up, so you might notice more drowsiness, fatigue, dizziness, or trouble focusing.

I'll be straight with you: this concern is theoretical, based on how each one behaves rather than reports of people specifically combining them. Felbamate isn't a prodrug, so this isn't about one changing the other's blood levels, it's simply two sedating things at once. Snakeroot can also drop blood pressure sharply. Please check with your pharmacist or doctor before pairing them.

About Felbamate

What Is Felbamate Used For?

Brand name: Felbatol

Felbamate is not a first-line seizure medication. It is used only when a person's epilepsy has not responded well enough to other treatments and the seizures are severe enough that the serious risks of this drug are considered acceptable.

In adults, felbamate can be used alone or alongside other antiepileptic drugs (AEDs) to treat partial seizures (seizures that start in one part of the brain), with or without spreading to become a full seizure. In children, felbamate is used as an add-on treatment for both partial and generalized seizures linked to Lennox-Gastaut syndrome, a severe form of childhood epilepsy. Felbatol is specifically labeled for these uses in both adults and children.
