Here's the simple version: trimethadione (Tridione) can fall into a group of medicines known to make your skin and eyes more sensitive to light. Light therapy works by shining bright light at you, so combining the two could, in theory, make your skin react more easily, think redness, irritation, or a sunburn-like response, and possibly bother your eyes.

I want to be honest about the strength of this concern. It's based on how the drug behaves on paper, not on a pile of real-world reports, so it's more of a caution flag than a proven problem. Still, since both push in the same direction, it's worth a quick chat with your doctor or pharmacist before starting light therapy. Don't change your seizure medicine on your own.

What Is Trimethadione Used For?

  • Trimethadione is used to control absence seizures (petit mal; a type of seizure in which there is a very short loss of awareness during which the person may stare straight ahead or blink his eyes and does not respond to others) when other medications will not work. Trimethadione is in a class of medications called anticonvulsants. It works by reducing abnormal electrical activity in the brain.
